I Have Prepared ...

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) as saying that: Allah the Exalted and Glorious, said: I have prepared for My pious servants which no eye has ever seen, and no ear has ever heard, and no human heart has ever perceived but it is testified by the Book of Allah. He then recited:" No soul knows what comfort has been concealed from them, as a reward for what they did".

Three Sunan of Eid Al-Fitr

Imâm Sa’îd b. Al-Musayyib – Allâh have mercy on him – said:

The Sunnah of Al-Fitr consists of three things: Walking to the prayer place (musallâ), eating before leaving [for the prayer] and taking a full bath.

Personal 142

Subhan'Allah this morning something so interesting started happening when I went by the beach after fajr (morning prayer) with my sisters 1 It was so misty yet not fog and subhan'Allah it's like you couldn't even see the lake at all. We thought it would have been a clear sky but it was just randomly misty & we ended up just staying there reflecting & enjoying good beneficial conversation alhamdulilah. So basically out of the random the Sun appears so clear & white looking, there was a sister with me that was convinced it was the moon but it was 7:45AM and that wasn't possible because then it started to glow..brighter and brighter but still you can see the perfect circle forming the sun and it was just so clear. Reminded us of the signs of Laylatul Qadr and we actually believe that we have witnessed it wallahu alam ofcourse! It was just something so hard to describe and it didn't feel normal to any of us, like very serial subhan'Allah. We took as much photos as we can but when we looked at them they looked like the moon. The whole time we're sitting by the lake trying to ponder about it & just stare at the sun it was so calm & the water was very peaceful and glistening ma'sha'Allah. Just an experience I will never forget since I have never seen this my whole life <3 Then a UK sister on twitter told me how she seen it aswell from where she was ajeeb! + the same day it's the 27th (one of the odd days that Laylatul Qadr could fall on) . All of this connects but Allah knows best what we saw, it's feel is so undescribable but just pure love, alhamdulilah<3

The signs of Laylatul-Qadar

The signs of Laylatul-Qadar, by Shakyh al-'Uthaymeen (rahimahullaah)

Question: What are the signs of Laylatul-Qadar?

Response: From amongst the signs of Laylatul-Qadar is that it is a calm night and the believer's heart is delighted and at peace with it, and he becomes active in doing good actions, and the sun on the following morning rises clearly without any rays.

Where to Look During Qunoot

Where to Look During Qunoot - Shaykh Sa’ad ibn Nasir ash-Shitri
Question - This is the last question, the questioner asks, “where does the supplicating person look when standing for the Dua for Qunoot?”
Answer - If the supplicating person is making Dua during the prayer then the ruling is that he looks towards the place of Sujood (prostration). He looks at the place he is going to prostrate to just as he would do in the remaining pillars of the prayer. And he does not raise his eyesight to the sky nor does he look in front of him.
And it appears in an authentic narration that the Messenger of Allaah (peace & blessings of Allaah be upon him) forbade raising the eyesight to the sky. And he said, “Surely the people will either stop raising their sight to the sky or their sight will be taken away from them and it shall not return to them.”
Therefore, the sight should be directed toward the place of Sujood (prostration). And if the sight is raised slightly in front of him then this is permissible because it appears in a Hadeeth that the Messenger (peace & blessings be upon him) of Allaah looked at the niche in front of him, and he saw a portion of grapes in front of him. So, this is permissible but the person should not do it on a continual basis nor make it his habit. As for the raising of the sight to the sky then this is prohibited and it is not permissible even during the Dua of Qunoot.
From the affairs which are connected to these issues is that the person should suffice himself by saying ‘Ameen’ and he should not use other words or phrases such as saying Subhan’Allaah, exalting Allaah, La ilaaha illalaa or anything like this when the Imaam is making Dua in the Qunoot because none of this has been narrated. Therefore, the person should suffice himself with that which has been narrated.

7 Practical Tips for praying Qiyaam al-Layl

7 Practical Tips for praying

Qiyaam al-Layl

References
‘The Night Prayers’ by Muhammad Nasir ud-Deen al-Albanee (rahimahullah)
As-Sunnah Islamic Newsletter Issue 15

What is Qiyaam al-Layl?
Qiyaam' means 'standing' and 'Qiyaam al-Layl' means 'standing in night.' In the Islamic terminology, both terms refer to, 'the voluntary night prayer, whose time extends from after Isha prayer until dawn.' Other common names for Qiyaam al-Layl are, Salaat ul-Layl (the night prayer), Tahajjud (from hajada meaning remained awake at night), Witr (odd-numbered this term is also used to refer to the last one or three Raka'ah of Qiyaam) and Taraweeh (resting).

A widespread misconception is that Tahajjud is a different night prayer than Qiyaam or Taraweeh. It is important to clarify this misunderstanding and to make clear that there is only one nafl night prayer known by different names. Even though the term Taraweeh is more commonly used to describe the night prayer in Ramadan, it is not different from Tahajjud. Thus, the practice of praying Taraweeh in the earlier part of the night and Tahajjud in the later part should be stopped.

The Excellence of Qiyaam al-Layl
Numerous Ahaadeeth and Qur'aanic verses mention the excellence of Qiyaam al-Layl and the merit of those who perform it regularly. Umm al-Mumineen, Aa'ishah (radhi allahu anha) reported that the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said: “The most beloved deeds to Allah are the most constant, even if they were little.” [Saheeh al-Bukharee and Saheeh Muslim] and she said in another narration: “Do not ever stop praying Qiyaam. The Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) never ceased praying it. When he was sick or weak, he prayed sitting.” [Saheeh al-Bukharee and Saheeh Muslims] He (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said: “You should pray Qiyaam al-Layl, for it is the habit of the righteous people who came before you, and it will bring you closer to your Lord, expiate for bad deeds, prevent sin, and expel disease from the body.” [At-Tirmidhee and Musnad Ahmad]

Narrated Mu'adh Ibn Jabal (radhi allahu anhu): 'The Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said to him: “May I show you the gates of goodness?' (they are), “(a) Fasting is screen from Hell, (b) As-Sadaqah extinguishes the sins, as water extinguishes fire, (c) Standing in Salaat (prayer) by a slave of Allah during the last third part of a night.” Then the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) recited the verse: “Their (believer's) sides forsake their beds, to invoke their Lord in fear and hope; and they spend out of what We have bestowed on them.”' [Abu Dawood and at-Tirmidhee]

Abu Hurayrah (radhi allahu anhu) reported that Allah's Messenger (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said: “The best of prayer after those prescribed (i.e. obligatory prayer) is that in the depth of night.” [Saheeh Muslims]

Abu Hurayrah (radhi allahu anhu) reported that Allah's Messenger (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said: “May Allah have mercy on a man who wakes up at night, prays, and wakes his wife to pray; and if she refuses, he sprinkles water on her face. And may Allah have mercy on a woman who wakes up at night, prays, and wakes her husband to pray; and if he refuses, she sprinkles water on his face.” [(Hasan) Abu Dawood ]

Abdullah Ibn Bashr (radhi allahu anhu) reported Allah's Messenger (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) saying: “Whoever prays Qiyaam reciting ten verses, he will not be recorded among the negligent. Whoever prays Qiyaam reciting one hundred verses, he will be recorded among the devout. And whoever prays Qiyaam reciting one thousand verses, he will be recorded among those with a multitude of good deeds.” [(Hasan) Abu Dawood]
7 Practical Tips for praying Qiyaam al-Layl

1: Ikhlas (Sincerity) - the key to Allah's Help and Blessings
Help of Allah is needed to accomplish and achieve success in all our affairs. And Allah only helps those who are sincere in their hearts. The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said: “If you are truthful with Allah, then Allah will deliver to you what you wish for.” [An-Nasa'ee, al-Hakim and Saheeh al-Jamee] Therefore, one should have a sincere intention to pray Qiyaam al-Layl; seek the Pleasure of Allah Alone and avoid the desire of praise or fame. Allah says: “And they were commanded not, but that they should worship Allah, and worship none but Him Alone…” [(98): 5]
Imam Ibn al-Qayyim said: “The degree to which a person is helped and aided by Allah depends on the degree of his intention, drive, aim and hopes. Help from Allah comes to people in proportion to their drive, intention, hopes and fears, and failure comes to them in like manner.”

2: Knowing the Virtues of Qiyaam al-Layl
Knowing the virtues and rewards of performing worship produces willingness and desire to perform the worship. We have previously mentioned numerous virtues of regularly praying Qiyaam al-Layl, here we mention the excellence of praying Qiyaam al-Layl particularly in the great month of Ramadan. Abu Hurayrah (radhi allahu anhu) reported: “Allah's Messenger (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) encouraged the people, without making it an absolute command, to perform Qiyaam during Ramadan. He (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) used to say: “Whoever stands (in Qiyaam) in Ramadan out of faith and expectation (of Allah's reward), all his previous sins will be forgiven.” [Saheeh Muslim]

3: Taking a nap in the daytime
Taking a nap before or after Dhur Salaat will dismiss the stress and thus enable one to get up in the night and stand in front of his Lord. The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said: “Take a nap, for the Shayateen (pl. of Shaytan) do not take naps.” [Reported by at-Tabaranee. Al-Saheehah (2647)]

4: Sleeping according to the Sunnah of Allah's Messenger
(a) Sleep early: Sleeping early is a healthy habit and it was the practice of Allah's Messenger (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) to sleep directly after performing the Isha prayer. Abu Barzah al-Aslami (radhi allahu anhu) said that the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) used to prefer to delay Isha, and he did not like to sleep before it or talk after it.” [Saheeh al-Bukharee]

(b) Sleep in a state of taharah (purity): Ibn Abbas (radhi allahu anhu) reported that Allah's Messenger (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said: “Purify these bodies and Allah will purify you, for there is no slave who goes to sleep in a state of purity but an Angel spends the night with him, and every time he turns over, [the Angel] says, 'O Allah! Forgive Your slave, for he went to bed in a state of purity.'” [Reported by at-Tabaranee. See Saheeh al-Jamee (3831)]

(c) Choose a suitable bed: Excessive luxurious or soft bed provokes laziness and makes one sleep more and become negligent. Aa'ishah (radhi allahu anha) narrates that the pillow of the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) on which he slept at night was made of leather stuffed with palm fibers.” [Abu Dawood and Musnad Ahmad. Saheeh al-Jamee (4714)]

Once Umar Ibn al-Khattab (radhi allahu anhu) entered upon the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) when he was lying on a mat of palm fibers that had left marks on his side. Umar (radhi allahu anhu) said: “O Messenger of Allah, why do you not get something more comfortable than this?” He (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said: “What do I have to do with this world? My relationship with this world is like that of a traveler on a hot summer's day, who seeks shade under a tree for an hour, then moves on.” [Musnad Ahmad and al-Hakim. Saheeh al-Jamee (5545)]

(d) Cleaning the bed and lying on the right side
Abu Hurayrah (radhi allahu anhu) reported: “The Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said: “When any one of you goes to bed, let him clear his bed by hitting it with his garment, for he does not know what may have come onto it. Then let him lie down on his right side…” [Saheeh al-Bukharee and Saheeh Muslim]

(e) Reciting the Adhkaar (supplications) mentioned in the Sunnah before sleeping

There are a number of Adhkaar prescribed in the Sunnah before going to bed, amongst them are reciting the last verses of Soorah al-Baqarah, reciting Soorah al-Falaq and Soorah al-Nas and Soorah Ikhlas blow in the palms and wipe as much of the body possible, starting from the head, face and then the front of the body doing it three times. [Saheeh al-Bukharee and Saheeh Muslim]

Ali Ibn Abi Talib (radhi allahu anhu) reported that when the Prophet's daughter, Fatima (radhi allahu anha) came to him and asked him for a servant, he (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said to her and Ali: “Shall I not teach you something that will be better for you than a servant? When you go to bed, say 'SubhanAllah' thirty-three times, 'Al-hamdulillah' thirty-three times, and 'Allahu Akbar' thirty-four times. This is better for you than a servant.” [Saheeh al-Bukharee and Saheeh Muslim]

5: Avoid too much food and drink
Too much food or drink is one of the main obstacles that make one lazy and negligent of Qiyaam al-Layl. The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said: “Man fills no vessel worse than his stomach. It is sufficient for the son of Adam to have a few mouthfuls to give him the strength he needs. If he has to fill his stomach, then let him leave one-third for food, one-third for drink and one-third for air.” [Reported by at-Tirmidhee and Ibn Majah. Saheeh al-Jamee (5674)]

Abu Juhayfah (radhi allahu anhu) reported that the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said to a man who burped in his presence: “Stop your burping, for the people who eat the most in this life will be the most hungry on the Day of Resurrection.” [Reported by al-Hakim. Saheeh al-Jamee (1190)]

6: Striving against oneself:
Striving against oneself to get up and pray and suppressing one's desires bring about Allah's help and His Pleasure for the slave. Allah says in the Qur'aan: “Strive in Allah's Cause as you ought to strive…” [Soorah al-Hajj (25): 78] “And as for those who strive hard in Our Cause, We will surely guide them to Our Paths. And verily, Allah is with the Muhsinoon (good-doers).” [ (29): 69]

The Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said: “The Mujahid (one who strives in way of Allah) is the one who strives against his own self for the sake of Allah.” [Reported by al-Tirmidhee. See al-Saheehah (549)]

He (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) also said: “When a man from my Ummah gets up to pray at night, striving against his own self to get up and purify himself, there are knots on him. When he washes his hands in wudhu, one knot is undone. When he washes his face, another knot is undone. When he wipes his head another knot is undone. When he washes his feet, another knot is undone. Then Allah says to those who are veiled (in the Unseen): 'Look at this slave of Mine, he is striving against his own self and asking of Me. Whatever My slave asks of Me shall be his.” [Musnad Ahmad. See Saheeh al-Targheeb (627)]

7: Rebuking one's self for not praying Qiyaam al-Layl
Qiyaam al-Layl is a great blessing from Allah, the Exalted, and He has placed in it numerous spiritual benefits and rewards for the believer. Therefore, one should rebuke one's self, if he misses this great opportunity of achieving rewards and Pleasure of Allah. Allah says in the Qur'aan: “O you who believe! Fear Allah and keep your duty to Him. And let every person look to what he has sent forth for the morrow, and fear Allah. Verily, Allah is All-Aware of what you do.” [(59): 18]
Imam Ibn al-Qayyim (rahimahullah) said: “If the slave is responsible and accountable for everything, even his hearing, sight and innermost thoughts, as Allah says, “…Verily, hearing, sight, and the heart of each of you will be questioned by Allah.” [Soorah al-Isra (17): 36], then he should check on himself before he is brought to account.”

Putting The Quran on the Ground

Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih al-‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

Sincerity towards the Book of Allaah includes not putting it in places where it will be treated with disrespect, or where putting it there is a kind of disrespect towards it, such as a place where garbage is put and the like. Hence it is essential to avoid doing what some children do when they finish their studies, when they throw their books which may contain part of the Qur’aan in the streets or in the garbage and so on. Allaah forbid.

As for putting the Qur’aan on clean ground, there is nothing wrong with that, because this is not disrespecting the Qur’aan or mistreating it. It often happens that a person is praying or reading from the Mushaf and he wants to prostrate, so he puts it down in front of him. This is not regarded as disrespect or mistreatment of the Mus-haf, so there is nothing wrong with it.

Personal 141

Ramadan is sadly coming to an end so since the last 10 days I've been attending tahjuud frequently alhamdulilah to try to get as much worship in before Ramadan comes to an end. I've learned self control during these nights & it's given me a whole new appreciation for what the Prophet (sallahu alayhi wasallam) used to do which is stand up throughout the night praying to Allah! It is so beautiful and I've been following along w/ the quran the beautiful stories within each chapter and each one simply leaves me just thinking and wondering. Subhan'Allah the quran is something so beautiful & unique ma'sha'Allah <3 I am seriously going to promise myself this year (after Ramadan) that I will make a commitment to memorize alot of quran before the next ramadan comes up in'sha'Allah May Allah allow us to witness the next! ameen. I hope you've been taking time to reflect on the Quran since this was the time that it was sent down to Rasullah (sallahu alayhi wasallam). Just reading the translation is amazing b/c since we don't fully understand arabic yet we still don't have an excuse to not make that connection w/ Allah through the quran. After all the Quran is the word of Allah (aza wa jal) & it is something that shouldn't sit on our shelves collecting dust till the next Ramadan. Make lots of dua b/c anyone of these odd night could be Laylatul-Qadr & we don't want to be among the ones who lose out on that night so in'sha'Allah keep strong in your worship & May Allah make us among the successful ameen!

Held Flying

An-Nahl [16:79]
Do they not see the birds held (flying) in the midst of the sky? None holds them but Allâh [none gave them the ability to fly but Allâh]. Verily, in this are clear Ayat (proofs and signs) for people who believe (in the Oneness of Allâh).

Guarding Asr and Fajr prayers and seeing Allah

Guarding Asr and Fajr prayers and seeing Allah – by Sheikh Bin Baz
The following is a summary translation taken from sahab.net
http://www.sahab.net/forums/showthread.php?t=361083

Question:
I want from the Noble Sheikh an answer to this question. The Messenger of Allah ‎‎‎ ‎‎‎‎ ‎‎‎‎ ‎‎‎‎ said, as has been narrated by the two Sheikhs, ‎Verily you shall see your Lord with your eyes as you are able to see this moon, you will have no difficulty in seeing Him; therefore if you have the ability to be diligent in the prayer before the sun rises and before it sets then do so.

The question is, why does this Hadith make a connection between seeing Allah ‎‎ ‎‎‎ with the Asr and Fajr prayers? Is guarding the prayer at these two times a reason for seeing Allah ‎‎ ‎‎‎?

Sheikh Bin Baz:
Seeing Allah ‎‎‎‎‎‎ in paradise and on the Day of Judgment is the truth, the believers will see Him, and this will be the greatest bliss for the people of paradise. When He removes the veil from His Face and they see Him, they would not have seen anything more beloved to them than looking at His Face ‎‎‎‎‎‎ ‎‎‎‎‎‎.

And the Prophet ‎‎‎ ‎‎‎‎ ‎‎‎‎ ‎‎‎‎ informed us that the believers will see Him on the Day of Judgment with their eyes just as they are able to see the clear sun when there are no clouds and like they are able to see the moon when the moon is full, and they will have no difficulty in seeing Him; this is a confirmed truth with Ahlus Sunnah wa Jamah.

Then the Prophet ‎‎‎ ‎‎‎‎ ‎‎‎‎ ‎‎‎‎ said, ‎Therefore if you have the ability to be diligent in the prayer before the sun rises and before it sets then do so‎,; and what is intended here is the Asr prayer and Fajr prayer.

The people of knowledge mentioned that the secret in this is that the one who guards these two prayers will be from those who see Allah morning and evening. They will see Allah morning and evening in paradise, meaning the time that will be regarded as morning and evening because in paradise there is no night rather it is only continuation day. Therefore what is intended is that which will be regarded as morning and evening, as Allah the Exalted says, ‎And they will have therein their sustenance, morning and evening‎. (Chapter 19 verse 62) Meaning that which is regarded as morning and evening in this world, and like this shall be the viewing of Allah during that time which is regarded as morning and evening.

Meaning the exclusive people of paradise, for them will be the viewing of Allah during the time between morning and evening, meaning they will see Him a lot due to their good actions and their truthfulness in faith. And from the reasons (for this blessing) are their guarding the Asr prayer and the Fajr prayer these two prayers are special. And guarding these two prayers is from the evidences of a person‎s strong faith and completeness in faith, along with guarding the other prayers.

Therefore it is obligatory to guard all the prayers but the Asr prayer and Fajr prayer are particularized with extra care and caution, because this is the opposite of what is done by the hypocrites and those who are lazy.

Wonderful Advice

"Sit only in the company of one who advises you to desire little from this world and who encourages you to put your hopes in the Hereafter. Take care not to sit with worldly people who speak constantly about worldly affairs; such people will ruin your religious well-being and will corrupt your heart." - [Sufyaan Ath-Thauree, rahimullaah]

Praise be to Allah who has fed me this food and provided it for me, without any strength or power on my part’

is forgiven his past and future sins."

An Abandoned Sunnah – During the Last Ten Days of Ramadan

عائشة : كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه و سلم إذا كان رمضان قام و نام فإذا دخل العشر شد المئزر و اجتنب النساء و اغتسل بين الأذانين و جعل العشاء سحورا

Aisha (radiAllahu anha) said ,” That during Ramadan Allah’s messenger (salAllahu `alayhi wa sallam) would sleep , wake up and pray. However when the last ten days came he would burn the midnight oil, avoid relations with his wives, perform a Ghusl between Maghrib and Isha and have dinner at the time of Sahur.”

Collected by : Ibn Abee ‘Asim. Ibn Rajab Al-Hanbali (795 H ) graded the isnad for this hadeeth as being Hasan.

Points of Benefit:

Ibn Rajab Al-Hanbali mentioned his book “Taif Al-Muarif” that performing Ghusl between Maghrib and Isha is a Sunnah to be performed during the last ten days of Ramadan.

Ibn Jarir said about this hadeeth, “ The Salaf used to considered it Sunnah to take Ghusl every night during the last ten days of Ramadan .

The Virtues of the Night of Al-Qadr

Author: Shaykh 'Abdullaah Ibn Saalih Al-Fawzaan

Abu Hurairah (radiAllahu anhu) reported that the Messenger of Allaah (salAllahu `alayhi wa sallam) said: "Whoever performs the night prayer on the night of Al-Qadr with Eemaan (firm belief) and seeking reward will have all his past sins forgiven." [1]

This hadeeth is evidence for the virtue of the night of Al-Qadr as well as performing qiyaam (night prayer) during it. And it indicates that it is a grand night, which Allaah has honored and made better than a thousand months, with regard to its blessing and the blessings found in the righteous deeds that are performed in it. Thus it is better than the worship of a thousand months and that is equivalent to eighty-three years and four months. Due to this, whoever performs qiyaam (night prayer) with true faith and while seeking reward in it, will be forgiven his past sins. There were certain verses revealed concerning this virtue: Allaah says: "We sent it (the Qur'aan) down on a blessed night. Verily We are Ever-Warning. Therein (on that night) is decreed every matter of ordainment." [2]

Therefore, it is a "blessed night" meaning it possesses much good and blessing due to its merit and the great reward that awaits the one who does good deeds in it. Among its blessings, is that Allaah revealed the Qur'aan in it. Allaah says: "Verily, We have sent it (the Qur'aan) down in the night of Al-Qadr. And what will make you know what the night of Al-Qadr is? The night of Al-Qadr is better than a thousand months. Therein descend the angels and the Rooh (Jibreel) by their Lord's permission with all decrees. (All that night) there is peace, until the appearance of dawn."

Supplication during the Night of Decree

Taken from Tafsir of Surat Al Qadr (The Night Of Power) - Tafsir Ibn Kathir

It is recommended to supplicate often during all times, especially during the month of Ramadan, in the last ten nights, and during the odd nights of it even more so. It is recommended that one say the following supplication a lot:

اللْهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي
"O Allah! Verily, you are the Oft-Pardoning, You love to pardon, so pardon me."
"Allaahumma Innaka 'Afuwwun Tuhibbul-'Afwa Fa'affoo 'annee."

This is due to what Imam Ahmad recorded from Aishah that she said "O Messenger of Allah! If I find the Night of Al-Qadr what should I say?" He (salAllahu alayhi wa sallam) replied, Say : "O Allah! Verily You are the Oft-Pardoning, You love to pardon, so pardon me." [Ahmad 6:182]

At-Tirmidhi, An-Nasai and Ibn Majah have all recorded this Hadith . At-Tirmdhi said "This Hadith is Hasan Sahih" .[Tahfat Al-Ahwadhi 9:495, An-Nasai in Al-Kurba 6:218, and Ibn Majah 2:1265] Al-Hakim recorded it in his Mustadrak (with a different chain of narration) and he said that it is authentic according to the criterial of the two Shaykhs (Al-Bukhari and Muslim). [Al-Hakim 1:530] An Nasai also recorded it. [An-Nasai in Al-Kubra 6:219]

اللْهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ O Allah, You are pardoning
تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ and You love to pardon
فَاعْفُ عَنِّيso pardon me

Day 21: It is Recommended to Break Fast with Moist Dates

Day Twenty-one: It is Recommended to Break Fast with Moist Dates By the Muhaddith, Shaykh, Allamaa’ Muhammad Nasir uddeen al-Albaani
Translated by Abbas Abu Yahya
From Anas bin Malik -Radi Allaahu anhu- ‘that the Messenger -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- used to break fast upon a few moist dates before he would pray, if there were no moist dates then he would break fast upon a few dry dates, and if there were none then he would take a few sips of water.’ Collected by Imam Ahmad, and others from the collectors of the Sunan with a Hasan hadeeth from Anas bin Malik -Radi Allaahu anhu.
It was graded Hasan by Tirmidhi, and authenticated by al-Hakim, Dhahabi and Deeyah in ‘al-Mukhtar’. I researched this narration in detail in ‘al-Irwaa’ and ‘Saheeh Abi Dawood’.
The aim of mentioning this hadeeth along with a brief research was indeed as a reminder of this Sunnah which many fasting people have neglected especially those who are generally invited to break fast at someone’s house and they prepare delicious, fine food and drink. As for presenting moist dates or dry dates then this is rare, and not even mentioned. What is more disliked than that is being negligent of making Iftaar by taking sips of water. So may Allaah give a tree in Paradise for the one who is amongst
who listen to speech and follow the best of it. Those are the ones Allah has guided, and those are people of understanding.[Zumar: 18]

Piety

"It is neither their meat nor their blood that reaches Allah, but it is piety from you that reaches Him." (22:37)

What is the Night of Decree?

Bismillaah, wal-hamdulillaah, was-salaatu was-salaamu 'alaa rasoolillaah.
Assalaamu 'alaykunna wa rahmatullaahi wa barakatuh,

In the Name of Allaah the Most Beneficient the Most Merciful.
Indeed, We sent the Qur'an down during the Night of Decree. [Surah al-Qadr (97):1]
And what can make you know what is the Night of Decree? [Surah al-Qadr (97):2]The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months. [Surah al-Qadr (97):3]
The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter. [Surah al-Qadr (97):4]Peace it is until the emergence of dawn. [Surah al-Qadr (97):5]

This is supported by what Imam Ahmad recorded from Ubadah bin As-Samit that the Messenger of Allah, sallAllaahu 'alayhi wasallam, said,

"The Night of Al-Qadr occurs during the last ten (nights). Whoever stands for them (in prayer) seeking their reward, then indeed Allah will forgive his previous sins and his latter sins. It is an odd night: the ninth, or the seventh, or the fifth, or the third or the last night (of Ramadan)."

Imam Ahmad recorded that Abu Hurayrah said " When Ramadan would come, the Messenger of Allah, sallAllaahu 'alayhi wasallam, would say,

Verily, the month of Ramadan has come to you all. It is a blessed month, which Allah has obligated you all to fast. During it the gates of Paradise are opened, the gates of Hell are closed and the devils are shackled. In it there is a night that is better than one thousand months. Whoever is deprived of its good, then he has truly been deprived.''

[An-Nasa'i recorded this same Hadith]

Supplication during the Night of DecreeIt is recommended to supplicate often during all times, especially during the month of Ramadan, in the last ten nights, and during the odd nights of it even more so. It is recommended that one say the following supplication a lot:

"O Allah! Verily, You are the Oft-Pardoning, You love to pardon, so pardon me.'' [*]

This is due to what Imam Ahmad recorded from `A'ishah, that she said,
"O Messenger of Allah! If I find the Night of Al-Qadr what should I say''

He replied, say:
"O Allah! Verily, You are the Oft-Pardoning, You love to pardon, so pardon me.''
At-Tirmidhi, An-Nasa'i and Ibn Majah have all recorded this Hadith.
At-Tirmidhi said, "This Hadith is Hasan Sahih.''

[*] For the supplication of the Night of Decree written in Arabic go to: http://www.quran4u.com/Tafsir%20Ibn%20Kathir/PDF/097%20Qadr.pdf
For those who cannot read Arabic, I've tried my best to make a transliteration. If I've made a mistake please forgive me and advise me, baarakAllaahu feekunna: Allaahumma in-naka 'afuw-wu tuhib-bul'afwa fa'fu 'an-nii.
Please keep in mind that the letter 'ha' in tuhib-bul is the the 6th letter of the Arabic alphabet, not the 27th.

I highly recommend that you read the tafsir of Surah al-Qadar and Surah al-Muzzammil by Ibn Kathir since both chapters do speak about the Night Prayer during Ramadhaan. It's a must read inshaaAllaah!
Tafsir of Surah al-Qadr - http://www.quran4u.com/Tafsir%20Ibn%20Kathir/PDF/097%20Qadr.pdf
Tafsir of Surah al-Muzzammil - http://www.quran4u.com/Tafsir%20Ibn%20Kathir/PDF/073%20Muzzammil.pdf
For the tafsir of other chapters of the Qur'an - http://www.quran4u.com/Tafsir%20Ibn%20Kathir/

An advice if you're trying to memorize the Qur'an is to read the tafsir of the Surah that you are planning to memorize. It may make it easy [inshaaAllaah] to memorize a surah in which you understand its context, as to why it was revealed, the interpretation of the verses, so on and so forth.

May Allaah let us live long enough to fast the remainder of Ramadhaan, to benefit from it and the last ten nights of this blessed month. May Allaah also pardon us for our sins those in private and in public. Ameen.
InshaaAllaah, for those who would like to pray the last 10 nights of Ramadhaan, in hopes of finding the Night of Al-Qadr, you can either pray it in congregation at the mosque or at home.

And Allaah knows best.

That is a successful trade, O Abu Ad-Dahdah!

Ibn Abi Hatim recorded that `Abdullah bin Mas`ud said, “When this Ayah,
[مَّن ذَا الَّذِى يُقْرِضُ اللَّهَ قَرْضًا حَسَنًا فَيُضَاعِفَهُ لَهُ]
(Who is he that will lend Allah handsome loan: then (Allah) will increase it manifold to his credit (in repaying),) was revealed, Abu Ad-Dahdah Al-Ansari said, `O Allah’s Messenger! Does Allah ask us for a loan‘ The Prophet said,
«نَعَمْ، يَاأَبَا الدَّحْدَاح»
(Yes, O Abu Ad-Dahdah.) He said, `Give me your hand, O Allah’s Messenger,’ and the Prophet placed his hand in his hand. Abu Ad-Dahdah said, `Verily, I have given my garden as a loan to my Lord.’ He had a garden that contained six hundred date trees; his wife and children were living in that garden too. Abu Ad-Dahdah went to his wife and called her, `Umm Ad-Dahdah!’ She said, `Here I am.’ He said, `Leave the garden, because I have given it as a loan to my Lord, the Exalted and Most Honored.’ She said, `That is a successful trade, O Abu Ad-Dahdah!’ She then transferred her goods and children. The Messenger of Allah said,
«كَمْ مِنْ عَذْقٍ رَدَاحٍ فِي الْجَنَّةِ لِأَبِي الدَّحْدَاح»
(How plentiful are the sweet date clusters that Abu Ad-Dahdah has in Paradise!)” In another narration, the Prophet said,
«رُبَّ نَخْلَةٍ مُدَلَّاةٍ، عُرُوقُهَا دُرٌّ وَيَاقُوتٌ، لِأَبِي الدَّحْدَاحِ فِي الْجَنَّة»
(How many a date tree that has lowered down its clusters, which are full of pearls and gems in Paradise for Abu Ad-Dahdah!)

Allah & the Last Day..

On the authority of Abu Hurairah (radi allahu ‘anhu) that the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said:
Let him who believes in Allah and the Last Day speak good, or keep silent; and let him who believes in Allah and the Last Day be generous to his neighbour; and let him who believes in Allah and the Last Day be generous to his guest.
It was related by Bukhari (البخاري) and Muslim (صحيح مسلم).

“… a woman never worships Allâh in the way she does when she worships Him in her house.”

Women are ‘Awrah – Explained
‘Abdullâh b. Mas’ûd – Allâh be pleased with him – said:
Women are but an ‘awrah (something private to be covered). A woman might leave her house without there being any problem with her, but the Shaytân seeks her out and says [to her], “You will not pass by anyone except that you will impress/please him.” A woman puts on her clothes and is asked where she is going, to which she replies, “To visit a sick person,” or “to attend a funeral”, or “to pray in the masjid”; but a woman never worships Allâh in the way she does when she worships Him in her house.

Righteous In This World

What is the description of al-hoor al-iyn as stated in the Qur'aan and Sunnah? If a wife is righteous in this world, what will her form or attributes be in Paradise if Allaah wills that she should enter Paradise?.

Praise be to Allaah.

Firstly:

Pleasing the most Merciful and entering Paradise are the ultimate aim that believing men and women should wish for. If a person departs this world having won the pleasure of Allaah, then he will have the glad tidings of all that is good after that. When he enters Paradise he will have delights and pleasures such as no eye has seen, no ear has heard and it has not entered the mind of any man. He will have all that he wishes for in the best ways. Everything that he asks for will be granted, and everything that he longs for he will get. He will never find anything to upset or disturb him, because he is in the care of the Most Merciful, as Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Therein you shall have (all) that your inner‑selves desire, and therein you shall have (all) for which you ask.

32. An entertainment from (Allaah), the Oft‑Forgiving, Most Merciful”

[Fussilat 41:31-32]

One of the best things that people long for in the Hereafter is, for men, the women of Paradise, namely al-hoor al-‘iyn, and for women there is an equivalent delight. By His great wisdom, Allaah has not mentioned what the women will have as the equivalent of al-hoor al-‘iyn for men, and that is due to modesty and shyness. How can He encourage them to seek Paradise by mentioning something that they are too shy and modest to mention or speak about themselves? So He has simply hinted at it, as in the verse (interpretation of the meaning):

“Therein you shall have (all) that your inner‑selves desire

[Fussilat 41:31-32]

The description of al-hoor al-‘iyn is mentioned in more than one place in the Book of Allaah, such as the following:

1 – Allaah says, describing the reward of the people of Paradise (interpretation of the meaning):

“And (there will be) Hoor (fair females) with wide lovely eyes (as wives for Al-Muttaqoon – the pious).

23. Like unto preserved pearls”

[al-Waaqi’ah 56:22, 23]

al-Sa’di (may Allaah have mercy on him)said:

“And (there will be) Hoor (fair females) with wide lovely eyes”. Al-Hawra’ is a woman in whose eyes are lined with kohl, beautiful and bright. Al-‘iyn refers to beautiful and huge eyes. The beauty of eyes in the female is one of the greatest signs of beauty.

“Like unto preserved pearls” means, as if they are pure, white, shining pearls, which are covered and protected from people’s eyes, the wind and the sun. Their colour is one of the most beautiful of colours and they have no fault or blemish of any kind. This is how al-hoor al-‘iyn are: they have no faults of blemishes of any kind, rather they are beautiful in all ways.

Every time you gaze upon her, you see nothing but that which gladdens the heart. End quote.

Tafseer al-Sa’di, p. 991

2 – Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“(In beauty) they are like rubies and coral”

[al-Rahmaan 55:58]

al-Tabari (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

Ibn Zayd said concerning the words “they are like rubies and coral” it is as if they are rubies in their purity and like coral in their whiteness. So their purity is that of rubies and their whiteness is that of pearls. End quote.

Tafseer al-Tabari, 27/152

3 – Allaah says describing the women of Paradise, in Soorat al-Waaqi’ah (interpretation of the meaning):

“Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation.

36. And made them virgins.

37. Loving (their husbands only), (and) of equal age”

[al-Waaqi’ah 56:35-37]

Ibn Katheer (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

With regard to the word “loving (‘uruban)”, Sa’eed ibn Jubayr said, quoting from Ibn ‘Abbaas that it means: they are loving towards their husbands. It was narrated from Ibn ‘Abbaas that al-‘urub are those who love their husbands and their husbands love them.

With regard to the word “of equal age (atraaban)”, al-Dahhaak said, quoting from Ibn ‘Abbaas, that it means: of the same age, thirty-three years.

Al-Saddi said: “atraaban” means that they are equal in temperament and they do not resent or envy one another, i.e., they are not like hostile co-wives. End quote.

Tafseer Ibn Katheer, 4/294

Al-Haafiz Ibn Hajar said:

It was narrated that Mujaahid said concerning the verse “Loving (their husbands only), (and) of equal age”: i.e., those who are dear to their husbands.

Fath al-Baari, 8/626

4 – Allaah says, describing them (interpretation of the meaning):

“Therein (Gardens) will be Khairaatun‑Hisaan [fair (wives) good and beautiful]”

[al-Rahmaan 55:70]

Ibn al-Qayyim said:

They are described as being fair and beautiful. The word khayraat (fair and good) is derived from the word khayyarah, which refers to the woman who combines all good qualities, both outward and inward, and whose physical appearance and attitude are perfect. So they are good in attitude and fair of face.

Rawdat al-Muhibbeen, p. 243.

5 – Allaah describes them as pure, as He says (interpretation of the meaning):

“and they shall have therein Azwaajun Mutahharatun (purified mates or wives), and they will abide therein forever”

[al-Baqarah 2:25]

Ibn al-Qayyim said:

Allaah describes them as pure: “and they shall have therein Azwaajun Mutahharatun (purified mates or wives)”, pure from menses, urine and the like (stools) and all off-putting features that may exist in the women of this world. And their hearts are pure from envy, annoyance of their husbands, meanness or wishing for husbands other than them.

Rawdat al-Muhibbeen, p. 243, 244

6 – Allaah describes them as refraining from looking at anyone except their husbands (interpretation of the meaning):

“Wherein both will be Qaasiraat‑ut‑Tarf [chaste females (wives) restraining their glances, desiring none except their husbands]”

[al-Rahmaan 55:56]

“Hoor (beautiful, fair females) guarded in pavilions”

[al-Rahmaan 55:72]

Ibn al-Qayyim said:

Allaah describes them as being “guarded in pavilions”, i.e., they are prevented from making a display of themselves before anyone except their husbands. They are guarded for their husbands and they do not go out of their houses, and they restrain themselves for them and do not desire anyone else. And Allaah describes them as “Qaasiraat‑ut‑Tarf [chaste females (wives) restraining their glances”. This description is more complete than the first, for one of them restrains her gaze and focuses her love upon her husband, she is content with him and does not look beyond him at anyone else.

Rawdat al-Muhibbeen, p. 244

This is a brief look at what has been said about them in the Qur’aan. In the Sunnah there are descriptions of their beauty and fairness which defy the imagination, such as the following:

1 – It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The first group will enter Paradise looking like the moon on the night when it is full, and those who follow them will be like the brightest shining star in the sky. Their hearts will be as one, and there will be no hatred or jealousy among them. Each man will have two wives from among al-hoor al-‘iyn, the marrow of whose calves can be seen from beneath the bone and flesh.” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, no. 3014; Muslim, 2843.

Ibn Hajar (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

The stunning beauty of the hoori is such that the marrow of her calves can be seen from beneath her clothes, and a man will be able to see his face in the liver of one of them, like a mirror because of the fineness of her skin and the purity of her colour.

Fath al-Baari, 8/570

2 – It was narrated that Anas (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “If a woman from among the people of Paradise were to look out over the earth, she would illuminate everything that is in between them, and would fill everything that is in between them with fragrance. And the scarf on her head is better than this world and everything in it.”

If she were to show her face, it would shine between heaven and earth; how beautiful is the light of her face and how beautiful the scent that is filling the space between heaven and earth. As for her garments, the scarf that she places on her head is better than the beauty of this world and all that is in it of delights and pleasure and natural beauty and splendid palaces and other kinds of luxuries. Glory be to their Creator, how great He is, and congratulations to the one for whom she is and he is for her.

Secondly:

The situation of the believing woman in Paradise will be better than the situation of the hoor al-‘iyn; she will be higher in status and more beautiful. Several ahaadeeth and reports have been narrated concerning that, but none of them can be proven to be sound. But if a righteous woman from among the people of this world enters Paradise, then she will do so as a reward for her righteous deeds and as a honour from Allaah to her for her religious commitment and righteousness. As for the hoori who is one of the delights of Paradise, she has only been created in Paradise for the sake of someone else, and has been made the reward for the believing man for his righteous deeds. There is a great difference between one who enters Paradise as a reward for her righteous deeds and the one who was created as a reward for one who did righteous deeds. The former is a queen and a princess, and the latter, no matter how beautiful she is, is undoubtedly lower in status than a queen, and she is subject to the command of her believing master for whom Allaah created her as a reward.

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) was asked: Does the description of the hoor al-‘iyn include the women of this world?

He replied:

It seems to me that the women of this world will be better than the hoor al-‘iyn, even in outward appearance, and Allaah knows best.

Fataawa Noor ‘ala al-Darb.

We ask Allaah the Almighty to give us the best of that which He gives to His believing slaves. Ameen.

And Allaah knows best.
