Timing of ‘Isha prayer

This question is in reference to the timings of Isha Salat. There are various opinions regarding, when the time for offering Isha prayer expires. Some say that one can pray Isha till the Fajr Azaan is called, while others say that it expires at the time of "Tahajjud prayers". And finally some believe, that we are supposed to take the number of hours between Isha Azaan and the Fajr Azaan, and divide them into half, in order to estimate the last time for Isha prayer.
I know that prayers should be offered promptly and on time. Delaying a prayer without reason is not encouraged, but still it would be very beneficial to know the exact opinion on this issue.

Praise be to Allaah.

‘Isha prayer must be performed before midnight, and it is not permissible to delay it until midnight, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The time of ‘Isha’ is until midnight” (narrated by Muslim, al-Masaajid wa Mawaadi’ al-Salaah, 964). So you have to pray it before midnight, based on the length of the night, because the night may be longer or shorter, so the guideline is how many hours the night lasts. If the night is ten hours long, then it is not permissible to delay it until the end of the fifth hour. The best way it to pray it in the first third of the night. If a person prays it at the beginning of the time for ‘Isha, that is OK, but if he delays it a little while, that is preferable, because the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to recommend delaying ‘Isha’ prayer for a little while. But if someone prays it at the beginning of its time, after the twilight – the reddish afterglow along the horizon – has vanished, there is nothing wrong with that. And Allaah knows best.

The Ruling on Women carrying Weapons

The Ruling on Women carrying Weapons
Author: Shaikh Yahya Ibn 'Alee Al-Hajoori (hafithafullah)
Source: www.aloloom.net

Q: What is the ruling on women carrying weapons?

A: (Women carrying weapons) is imitating the men. The Messenger (sallAllaahu ‘alahi wa sallam) has said:

"You (i.e. women) have a jihaad that does not involve fighting (i.e. hajj and 'umrah)."

So if she is attacked, (may Allah protect her from that), then she fights off the attacker as much as she can. (Again) if she's attacked or such, she wards off the person from herself to the best of her ability. But as for carrying weapons then it is not from her characteristics and it is imitating the men.

Trey Songz has made Toronto Go Crazy!

SubhanAllah so today, Trey Songz came to Toronto more specifically to Footlocker @ yonge & dundas. Girls literally are going crazy for him, & I'm at home getting a million updates via BBM. It's amazing to see how much people adore this young man & how disgusting it is that they drool over him & want just a mere glimpse of him. The lengths they would go astonishes me, for real.

I think people; (mostly girls) have forgotten that he is just a human like me & You, & that praising his singing isn't right when the content of the songs aren't even CLOSE to being Halal. Sure everyone has a past, alhamdulilah you live and you learn.. but there's a time to stop & realize that this isn't life.

Celebs, Movie Stars, Boy Bands & Rappers... aren't all sparkle dazzle in reality, their normal people that make haram money singing about things both me & you know we wouldn't want our little sisters listening too. So we should Fear Allah & not attend gatherings like this because they only darken the heart & place you more on the path of misguidance, since they praise these Celebs more then Allah.

May Allah protect us all from this path. Ameen

Sheikh Sudais- Dua part 1

If she asks for a divorce then gets married, does she have the right to custody of her children?

I am about to get my marriage annuled by a counsil of iman primarily because i have enough islamic grounds for it and because my spouse does not want to give me talaaq or to accept khaula. The iman even mentioned to him that i am not his property to force me to live with him.I have 3 children which in the iman's opinion for the best welfare of the children it's better to be under my custody.iman'comments about my spuse's character "he can not be trusted, he uses the name of shariah for his own purposes." Because my iddah did not even started i am shy to ask this question: if i find a brother that wishes to marry me, do i loose automatically the custody or the welfare of the children is considered?
do you have any hadith towards this issue? the mother after getting married with another brother kept the custody of the children.
by the law of the land i will get the full custody ; however i fear ALLH(swt) and i do not want to go against shariah.

Praise be to Allaah.

Firstly:

It is better for a woman to be patient and put up with her husband, especially if they have children. No household is free from arguments. But if her husband is mistreating her very badly and she cannot bear it, then she may get divorced.

Secondly:

If a woman gets divorced by talaaq then her ‘iddah lasts for three menstrual cycles. But she is gets divorced by khula’, then her ‘iddah is just one menstrual cycle. It is haraam to propose marriage to her whilst she is still in ‘iddah.

Thirdly:

Sharee’ah states that if the spouses separate, the mother has more right to custody of the children than the father, but if she remarries she loses her right to custody. The evidence for that is the fact that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said to that woman who asked for custody of her child from her husband – after he had divorced her – “You have more right to that so long as you do not get married.”

Narrated by Abu Dawood, 2276 from the hadeeth of ‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Amr (may Allaah be pleased with him); classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood, 1991.

The hadeeth indicates that the woman has more right to custody of her children than her husband, unless she gets married, in which case he has more right.

Our advice to this sister is that she should think long and hard before she asks for divorce or khula’. If you are able to be patient and put up with your husband’s annoyance, and the problems between you can be resolved by mutual understanding and agreement, then this is better. But if you cannot stand to live with him, this is something that only you can decide.

If they separate and the woman has to choose between her children and another husband, then she should pray istikhaarah, seek the help of Allaah and turn to Him in du’aa’ and supplication, asking Him to guide her to the right decision. This is the Islamic ruling concerning this matter.

If the law of your country states that the mother gets custody of the children even if she remarries, this is contrary to the rules of sharee’ah, and that is not permissible. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Do they then seek the judgement of (the days of) Ignorance? And who is better in judgement than Allaah for a people who have firm Faith”

[al-Maa'idah 5:50]

And Allaah knows best.

Islam Q&A

Salat-ul-Tawbah (Prayer of Repentance)

Q:When I was a young man, I committed some sins. Alhamdu lillah [All praise is due to Allah], for having guided me to make Tawbah (repentance to Allah). However, I still have doubts about whether Allah has accepted my Tawbah or not. Kindly enlighten me regarding Salat-ul-Tawbah (Prayer of Repentance). May Allah reward you with the best!

A: Alhamdu lillah, Tawbah wipes out all one’s past sins. Therefore, you should give up your doubts that Allah has turned your Tawbah away. Rather, you have to expect good from your Lord and have firm belief that He has accepted your heartfelt Tawbah. This is based on the Ayah (Qur’anic verse) in which Allah says:Surah Al-Nur, 24: 31 And all of you beg Allâh to forgive you all, O believers, that you may be successful In the above Ayah, Allah has made success contingent upon making Tawbah. Anyone who turns in Tawbah to Allah, will achieve success. Allah (Glorified be He) says:Surah TaHa, 20: 82 And verily, I am indeed forgiving to him who repents, believes (in My Oneness, and associates none in worship with Me) and does righteous good deeds, and then remains constant in doing them, (till his death). Allah is the Ever-Truthful Who never breaks His Promises. Allah (Glorified be He) also says:Surah Al-Tahrim, 66: 8 O you who believe! Turn to Allâh with sincere repentance! It may be that your Lord will expiate from you your sins, and admit you into Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise)

In the above Ayah Allah’s Promise, as indicated by the words “It may be …”, should be understood to mean that He will surely fulfill His Promise.

Therefore, you have to expect good from Allah and assume that He has accepted your Tawbah provided that you are sincere and full of remorse for committing these past sins. You also have to be determined not to return to doing them again. You have to be aware of incitements of Satan. In one Hadith Qudsy (Revelation from Allah in the Prophet’s words) Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) says: I am near to the thought of My Servant as he thinks about Me.

Therefore, you ought to have firm belief that Allah has accepted your Tawbah. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Let none of you die without expecting good from Allah (may He be Glorified and Exalted) (Related by Muslim in his Sahih (authentic) Book of Hadith)

As for Salat-ul-Tawbah, it was authentically reported on the authority of Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

Anyone who commits a sin, performs Wudu’ (ablution) properly, and then offers two Rak’ahs (units of Prayer) wherein he asks Allah to forgive his sins, Allah will accept his Tawbah. (Related by Ahmad)May Allah grant us success!

Al-Khashiun

Al-Baqara [2:45]
And seek help in patience and As-Salât (the prayer) and truly it is extremely heavy and hard except for Al-Khâshi'ûn [i.e. the true believers in Allâh - those who obey Allâh with full submission, fear much from His Punishment, and believe in His Promise (Paradise,) and in His Warnings (Hell, )].

He wants to call other employees to pray but he is hesitant

I offer namaz (Prayer) regularly (mash-allah) also when i am in office, but in my office i have other muslim brothers who dont offer namaz. I want to talk to them but feel that if i try to convince them i will stop offering namaz. I dont understand why i have these feeling. Please guide me. Also in my office i asked our tea boy why he does not offer namaz. He said he has to clean toilet daily so he gets impure to offer namaz and evening when he reaches home he is tired as he is working for 12 hours so he is not able to offer. Please tell me how do i convince this person. I also always pray for him so that he starts offering namaz regularly.

Praise be to Allaah.

We ask Allaah to increase you in faith and piety and to help you to adhere to that which He has enjoined.

You should not hesitate to advise your colleagues and remind them about the prayer, rather that is what Allaah has enjoined. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Let there arise out of you a group of people inviting to all that is good (Islam), enjoining Al-Ma‘roof (i.e. Islamic Monotheism and all that Islam orders one to do) and forbidding Al-Munkar (polytheism and disbelief and all that Islam has forbidden). And it is they who are the successful”

[Aal ‘Imraan 3:104]

“O my son! Aqim-is-Salaah (perform As-Salaah), enjoin (on people) Al-Ma‘roof (Islamic Monotheism and all that is good), and forbid (people) from Al-Munkar (i.e. disbelief in the Oneness of Allaah, polytheism of all kinds and all that is evil and bad), and bear with patience whatever befalls you. Verily, these are some of the important commandments (ordered by Allaah with no exemption)”

[Luqmaan 31:17]

And the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever among you sees an evil action, let him change it with his hand (by taking action); if he cannot, then with his tongue (by speaking out); if he cannot then with his heart (by hating it and feeling that it is wrong), and that is the weakest of faith.” Narrated by Muslim, 49.

Not praying is a great evil, indeed it is kufr that puts one beyond the pale of Islam, according to the more correct of the two scholarly opinions, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Between a man and kufr and shirk there stands his giving up prayer.” Narrated by Muslim, 82.

And he (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The covenant that stands between us and them is prayer, whoever gives it up is a kaafir.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 2621; al-Nasaa’i, 463; Ibn Maajah, 1079.

You should not even entertain the notion of not praying, rather you should hate that thought as you would hate to be thrown into the fire, as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There are three things, whoever attains them has found the sweetness of faith: when Allaah and His Messenger are dearer to him than anything else; when he loves a person and only loves him for the sake of Allaah; and when he would hate to go back to kufr as he would hate to be thrown into the fire.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 49; Muslim, 60.

With regard to the excuse that your colleague gives about his clothes becoming impure, the answer is that he can clean the bathrooms without his clothes becoming impure, and he can also set aside pure clothes for praying in. You should note that one who truly respects the prayer and understands its importance and the seriousness of not praying would not give such an excuse.

It is essential to advise this man and others, and explain the ruling concerning one who does not pray, and the obligation to offer prayer on time, and that it is haraam to delay it until after work or before going to bed, because Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Then, there has succeeded them a posterity who have given up As-Salaah (the prayers) [i.e. made their Salaah (prayers) to be lost, either by not offering them or by not offering them perfectly or by not offering them in their proper fixed times] and have followed lusts. So they will be thrown in Hell”

[Maryam 19:59]

Ibn Mas’ood said concerning al-ghayy (translated above as “Hell”): This is a valley in Hell which is very deep and has a foul taste.

And Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“So woe unto those performers of Salaah (prayers) (hypocrites),

5. Those who delay their Salaah (prayer from their stated fixed times)”

[al-Maa’oon 107:4-5]

Delaying prayer until its time is over is a major sin, and not praying at all is major kufr – we seek refuge with Allaah from that.

And Allaah knows best.

Whosoever The Qur’Aan And The Sunnah Does Not Suffice,Then May Allaah Not Suffice Him

Whosoever The Qur’Aan And The Sunnah Does Not Suffice,Then May Allaah Not Suffice Him
(Man-Lam Yakfih Alqur’Aan Was-Sunnah Falaa Kafaahul-Allaah)

By Shaykh Ahmed al-Wasaabee Class 43 of Lessons on Tawhid

Translation Of The Text In Al-Qawl-Ul-Mufeed Fee Adillatit Tawheed:

Benefit (Faa’idah):
al-‘Allaamah Ibnul-Qayyim has mentioned in Zaad al-Ma’aad: 4/352:

His (ta’aalaa) statement:
Is it not sufficient for them that We have sent down to you the Book (the Qur’aan) which is recited to them? (Al-’Ankaboot 29:51)

Then he said: ((Whosoever the Qur’aan does not heal, then may Allaah not heal him. And whosoever the Qur’aan does not suffice, then may Allaah not suffice him)) [Faman lam Yashfih al- Qur’aan, Falaa Shafaahul-Allaah, wa man lam Yakfih Falaa Kafaahul-Allaah]. End of quote.

And Aboo Ibraaheem [2] said: Whosoever the Book and the Sunnah does not suffice, then may Allaah not suffice him. And whosoever the Book and the Sunnah does not satisfy, then may Allaah not satisfy him [Wa man lam Yakfih al-Kitaab was-Sunnah Falaa Kafaahul-Allaah, wa man lam Yaqna’ bil-Kitaab was-Sunnah Falaa Aqna’hul-Allaah].

EXPLANATION OF THE TEXT BY SHAYKH AHMED AL-WASAABEE (HAFIDHAHULLAAH):

We find many of the people of innovation following the statements of their leaders in misguidance, and beautifying this to themselves and to the people, and leaving off the guidance of the Kitaab and the Sunnah. So the phrases that are mentioned in this chapter are supplications against these people and their likes, from the people of innovations and desires, those who are not satisfied, and do not find comfort in the Kitaab and the Sunnah, then these are supplications against them.

[2] And he is the writer, ash-Shaykh Muhammad ibn ‘Abdul-Wahhaab al-Wasaabee (hafidhahullaah).

Follows My Guidance. . .

Al-Baqara [2:38]
We said: "Get down all of you from this place (the paradise), then whenever there comes to you Guidance from Me, and whoever follows My Guidance, there shall be no fear on them, nor shall they griev

Pleasure&Delight

Al-Baqara [2:35]
And We said: "O Adam! Dwell you and your wife in the paradise and eat both of you freely with pleasure and delight, of things therein as wherever you will, but come not near this tree or you both will be of the Zâlimûn (wrong-doers)."

Glad Tidings

And We send not the Messengers but as givers of glad tidings and as warners. So whosoever believes and does righteous good deeds, upon such shall come no fear, nor shall they grieve.
Al-Anaam [6:48]

Were the wife of Abu Bakr al-Siddeeq and his daughter Asma’ among those who were given the glad tidings of Paradise?

I am aware that Abu Bakr and his daughter Aisha radi Allahu anhum were promised Jannah during the time of the Prophet peace be upon him. I wanted to know if his daughter Asma and the mother of Aisha were too?.

Praise be to Allaah.

Firstly:

With regard to Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), there are proven, saheeh hadeeths which state that he is one of those who were given the glad tidings of Paradise. This was previously discussed in the answer to question no. 5852.

Secondly:

With regard to ‘Aa’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), it is also narrated in saheeh hadeeths that she will be one of the wives of the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) in Paradise.

It was narrated that ‘Aa’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I said: O Messenger of Allah, who among your wives will be in Paradise? He said: “Verily, you will be one of them.”

Narrated by al-Haakim in al-Mustadrak (4/14). He said: Its isnaad is saheeh although they (al-Bukhaari and Muslim) did not narrate it. al-Dhahabi classed it as saheeh in al-Talkhees. Shaykh al-Albaani (may Allah have mercy on him) said in al-Silsilah al-Saheehah (no. 1142): It is (saheeh) according to the conditions of Muslim. End quote.

‘Ammaar ibn Yaasir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I know for certain that she is his wife in this world and in the Hereafter.

Narrated by al-Bukhaari (3772).

Thirdly:

With regard to Asma’ bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with her), her virtues are many and great. She bears the noble title of Dhaat al-Nitaaqayn (She of the Two Girdles), as she tore her girdle or waist wrapper in two during the Hijrah (Prophet’s migration to Madeenah) to serve the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and his companion Abu Bakr al-Siddeeq, and she was one of the foremost in Islam. Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, said (interpretation of the meaning):

“And those foremost [(in Islamic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islam] will be foremost (in Paradise).

11. These will be the nearest (to Allaah)”

[al-Waaqi ‘ah 56:10-11]

“Not equal among you are those who spent and fought before the conquering (of Makkah, with those among you who did so later). Such are higher in degree than those who spent and fought afterwards”

[al-Hadeed 59:10].

We have not found any hadeeth which specifically states that she was given the glad tidings of Paradise, except the report narrated from al-Zubayr ibn Bakkaar, who said: She was only called Dhaat al-Nitaaqayn (She of the Two Girdles) because when the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and Abu Bakr al-Siddeeq were preparing to set out for Madeenah (the Hijrah), ‘Abd-Allah ibn Abi Bakr came to them in the cave at night with their food supplies for the journey. There was nothing to tie (the bundle) with, so Asma’ tore her girdle in two and tied the bundle with it. The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Allah will give you in return for that two girdles in Paradise.” So she was called Dhaat al-Nitaaqayn.

This was narrated by Ibn ‘Asaakir in Tareekh Dimashq (6/69) and quoted by Ibn ‘Abd al-Barr in al-Isti‘aab (4/1782) and by Ibn Hajar in al-Isaabah (7/487).

As you can see, this report is mursal and does not have an isnaad. Al-Zubayr ibn Bakkaar died in 256 AH, and he does not say who he heard this hadeeth from.

Fourthly:

With regard to the mother of ‘Aa’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), her kunyah, by which she is best known, was Umm Roomaan. There is a difference of opinion concerning her name. It was said that it was Zaynab or Da‘d. She was the daughter of ‘Aamir ibn ‘Uwaymir ibn ‘Abd Shams, and she was one of the first to come to Islam.

‘Aa’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said:

I do not remember my parents ever following anything but the true religion.

Narrated by al-Bukhaari, no. 3905.

With regard to specific testimony that she was one of the people of Paradise, this was narrated in a mursal, da‘eef hadeeth from al-Qaasim ibn Muhammad, who said:

When Umm Roomaan was lowered into her grave, the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever would like to look at one of al-hoor al-‘iyn, let him look at Umm Roomaan.

This was narrated by Ibn Sa‘d in al-Tabaqaat al-Kubra (8/277), by Abu Na‘eem in Ma‘rifat al-Sahaabah (6/3498) and by al-Suhami in Tareekh Jarjaan (1/199). All of them narrated it from Hammaad ibn Salamah, from ‘Ali ibn Zayd, from al-Qaasim ibn Muhammad as a mursal report.

Some students of Hammaad ibn Salamah narrated it as a musnad hadeeth from ‘Aa’ishah, but al-Daaraqutni thought it most likely that the report was mursal.

See: al-‘Ilal al-Waaridah fi’l-Ahaadeeth al-Nabawiyyah by al-Daaraqutni (13/360)

How much Qur’aan did Khaalid ibn al-Waleed (may Allah be pleased with him) memorize?

Is it true that Khalid ibn Waleed (ra) only knew three Surah of the Quran because he was busy leading the armies of Islam? Is this recorded anywhere?.

Praise be to Allaah.

Khaalid ibn al-Waleed (may Allah be pleased with him) is the knight of Islam, the Sword of Allah unsheathed against His enemies, leader of great conquests who was present in many decisive battles in Islamic history. He was a man of bravery, strength and courage against the enemy; on the day of Mu’tah seven swords were broken in his hand, as was narrated by al-Bukhaari in his Saheeh.

He had a great love of jihad in support of the religion of Allah and to subdue the forces of evil, kufr and tyranny. Jihad distracted him from all worldly preoccupations, to such an extent that he used to say: “There is no night in which I was given a bride that I love that was more dear to me than a night of severe cold and ice on a campaign in which I attacked an enemy the following morning. Narrated by Abu Ya‘la.

And he (may Allah be pleased with him) said when he was dying: I sought to be killed in a place where death is usually expected (i.e., the battlefield) but it was decreed for me to die in my bed. There is no deed of mine that gave me greater hope, after [saying] la ilaaha ill-Allah, than a night that I spent with a shield in my hand and it rained until morning, in preparation for raiding the kuffaar.

Then he said: If I die, then look at my weapons and my horse, and give them (for jihad) for the sake of Allah.

His love for and preoccupation with this great act of worship (jihad for the sake of Allah) distracted him from other acts of worship such as narrating hadeeth and memorizing the Holy Qur’aan.

He (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Jihad for the sake of Allah kept me from a great deal of recitation. Narrated by Ibn Abi Shaybah in al-Musannaf (4/214) and classed as saheeh by al-Haafiz ibn Hajar in al-Mataalib al-‘Aaliyah (4/277); also narrated by al-Haythami in Majma‘ al-Zawaa’id (9/353),

This preoccupation was not something blameworthy; rather it was a preoccupation that brought glory to all of Islamic history and spread the light of Islam throughout the world which the kaafir tyrants tried to extinguish. There is nothing blameworthy in that, for “everyone is helped to do that for which he was created.” Among the Sahaabah there were scholars, fuqaha’, qaadis (judges), brave men, mujaahideen, those who gave in charity and those who devoted themselves to worship, according to their various abilities and the talents that Allah granted to them.

It is not wise for a person to leave that which he does well and excels at for something in which his achievements will be like those of anyone else, or less, and in which he will not excel.

The words of Khaalid (may Allah be pleased with him) quoted above do not mean that he did not memorize any more than three soorahs, as mentioned in the question. But it does mean that he was not like the hafizes and scholars such as ‘Abd-Allah ibn Mas‘ood, Ubayy ibn Ka‘b and others, based on the fact that he said: “Jihad for the sake of Allah kept me from a great deal of recitation,” and he did not say: “… kept me from recitation.” Jihad kept him from learning a great deal, but not keep him from reciting at all.

But stirring up such doubts and criticism about Khaalid (may Allah be pleased with him) may be motivated by the fact that Khaalid was a sword unsheathed against idols and false gods. Therefore, today you find the enemies of Islam striving hard to undermine his character and cast aspersions on his achievements, and they do not know that a sword that Allah has unsheathed against the kuffaar can never be sheathed again and that this great leader has become one of the symbols of courage, bravery and military genius. Thus were the men around the Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), beacons of action, sacrifice, nation-building, values and morals.

We ask Allah to enable us to follow in their footsteps and make us among those who follow them in truth.

And Allah knows best.

Is It Permissible to Say Jum'Ah Mubarak !?

Shaikh Fawzan was asked: What is the ruling on sending texts messages on
every Jumu'ah and closing the message with Jumu'ah Mubarak?

He answered: The Salaf did not congratulate each other like this on the day
of Jumua'ah therefore do not innovate something which they did not do!

This link is the actual fatwaa, the above is summarized but sadly the fatwaa
is only in arabic.

A Muslimah takes the issue of gossip very seriously,
& does not indulge in any type of gossip or tolerate anyone to gossip in her

things are being said about them, in accordance with this hadith:"Whoever

This Life of The World

Whoever desires a reward in this life of the world, then with Allâh (Alone and none else) is the reward of this worldly life and of the Hereafter. And Allâh is Ever All¬Hearer, All¬Seer.

Yaa Muqallibal Quloob Thabbit Qalbee ‘alaa Deenik.

Oh Turner of the Hearts keep our Hearts firm on Your Religion

Salih Luhaydan mentioned a nice benefit during his class tonight at the Haram in Makkah(7/2/2009). He mentioned that, ” If you come across someone performing an innovation, remember to praise Allah, the Most high. Remember to praise Allah, the Most High, because he hasn’t tested you with that innovation. “

He also mentioned that, “No one is safe from misguidance. So remember to constantly ask Allah to keep you on the straight path.”

A du’aa that he mentioned pertaining to this is:

يَا مُقَلِّبَ الْقُلُوبِ ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِى عَلَى دِينِكَ

Yaa Muqallibal Quloob Thabbit Qalbee ‘alaa Deenik.

If Allaah wills, He can seal the heart from guidance. Abdullah bin ‘Amr bin al-‘Aas said, that he heard Allaah’s Messenger saying, “All the hearts of the offspring of Aadam are between two fingers of Ar-Rehman’s Fingers, as one heart. He turns it (in any direction) as He wills. Then Allaah’s Messenger said, “O Allaah! The Turner of the hearts, turn our heart towards Your obedience.” [Saheeh Muslim vol.4, p.1397, no.6418]

The Importance of supplicating for steadfastness, and uprightness in the religion upto the end of one’s life.

Indeed the Prophet (sallahAllaahu alayhi wasallam) used to do so, and taught us to do so, as in the hadeeth of Umm Salamah by Shihr who said : ‘I said to Umm Salamah : ‘O Mother of the Believers, what is the duaa’ which the Prophet (sallahAllaahu alayhi wasallam) would supplicate the most while in your presence? ’

So she said : ‘The frequent supplication of his was :

يَا مُقَلِّبَ الْقُلُوبِ ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِى عَلَى دِينِكَ

“O, Turner of the hearts, turn our hearts to Your obedience.”

And also reported by Imaam Ahmad , from the hadeeth of ‘Aisha (radhiyaAllaahu anha): ‘The Dua’ which the Prophet (sallahAllaahu alayhi wasallam) used to supplicate with a lot…’ then she mentioned it.

The Ruling on Listening to Unknown Speakers?

Benefit: The Ruling on Listening to Unknown Speakers?

Shaykh Falaah Ismaa’eel al-Mandakar

What is the Ruling on Listing to Unknown Speakers and Taking Knowledge from them?

ما حكم سماع أشرطة المجاهيل وأخذ العلم عنهم؟

Bismillah al-hamdulillaah wa salaatu wa salaam ‘alaa rasoolillaah wa ‘alaa aalihi wa sahbihi wa man tabi’a hudaahu wa bad.

The trails of today are very many. Innovations and mixing up innovators with the people of the sunnah and their outward call to the sunnah and salafiyyah is wide spread, for this reason one should be cautious. ‘Abdullaah ibn ‘Abbaas used to say, if a man said ‘I heard the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) or the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, we (used to) rush to him and went out to seek him, listening to him, but when the fitnah occurred they began asking about the men (who were narrating the knowledge) like how Ibn Seereen mentioned “we said: name to us your men” meaning they were known by whom they narrated from. So from there they would know if they would listen and accept or refuse and not listen. If that was the case in that time, then our time has more priority. It is a must that one determines and limits those whom he listens to, and from whom he reads from, and who he takes from, and (the works he) issues, and also who he sits with, this is very important. As for being a haatib layl (one who gathers wood at nigh i.e. blindly, heedlessly), listing to everyone and those who are unknown. No, it is feared that a trail will befall this one. Surely from the signs of success from Allaah and wanting good for his slave, it is uprightness and guidance that he helps him to sit, mix with and take from the people of the Sunnah. It is obligatory to have seriousness and diligence towards seeking out that which brings about success and guidance from Allaah, and Allah is the one who grants success.

Understanding Islaam

Understanding Islaam

Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih al-'Uthaymeen
Sharh Usoolul-Eemaan (pp.4-7)

Al-Istiqaamah magazine , Issue No.1 - Dhul-Hijjah 1416H / May 1996

The Shaykh said in Sharh Usoolul-Eemaan (pp.4-7):

[1] The deen (religion) of Islaam: It is the way of life that Allaah sent the Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam with. By it, Allaah terminated the validity of all other religions, perfected this religion for His worshippers, completed His favour upon them and has chosen only this religion for them - no other religion will be accepted by Him from anyone. Allaah - the Most High - said:

"Muhammad is not the father of any man amongst you. Rather he is the Messenger of Allaah and the khaatim (last and final) of the Prophets." [Soorah al-Ahzaab 33:40].

"This day I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islaam as your religion." [Soorah al-Maa'idah 5:3].

"Indeed the religion with Allaah is Islaam." [Soorah Aal-'Imraan 3:19].

"Whosoever seeks a religion other than Islaam, never will it be accepted from him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers." [Soorah Aal-'Imraan 3:85].

And Allaah - the Most High - obligated all of mankind to take Islaam as their religion. So Allaah said, whilst addressing His Messenger sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam:

"Say: O Mankind! Indeed I have been sent to you all as the Messenger of Allaah; to Whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. None has the right to be worshipped except Him; it is He who gives life and cause death. So believe in Allaah and His Messenger - the Prophet who can neither read nor write - who believes in Allaah and His Words. So follow the Messenger of Allaah so that you may be rightly-guided." [Soorah al-A'raaf 7:158].

And in Saheeh Muslim (1/93), from Abu Hurayrah radiallaahu 'anhu that Allaah's Messenger sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam said: "By Him in whose Hand is the life of Muhammad! There is no one from this nation, be he a Jew or a Christian, who hears of me and dies whilst not having eemaan (faith) in what I have been sent with, except that he will be one of the companions of the Hellfire."

And eemaan (faith) in the Prophet implies: affirming that which he was sent with, along with acceptance of it and submission to it. Without these two matters, mere affirmation is not sufficient. This is why even though Abu Taalib (the Prophet's uncle) affirmed what was sent to the Prophet sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam and that Islaam was the best of religions, yet he did not accept his message nor submit to it; and thus he did not have eemaan in the Prophet sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam.

[2] The religion of Islaam contains all that was beneficial from the previous religions. It is suitable for implementation in any age, any where and by any nation. Allaah - the Most High - said, whilst addressing His Messenger sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam:

"And We have sent down to you the Book in truth, confirming the Scripture that came before it, testifying to the truth contained therein whilst exposing the falsehood that has been added therein." [Soorah al-Maa'idah 5:48].

That Islaam is suitable for implementation in any age, any where and by any nation does not mean that it becomes submissive to nations - being altered and changed by them - as some people falsely think. But rather it means that whenever it is truly adhered to then it brings benefit and goodness to that nation, as well as reforming and correcting it - in whatever age or place.

[3] The religion of Islaam is the religion of truth. It is the way of life that Allaah - the Most High - guaranteed His help and victory to those who truly adhere to it, and that He would make it dominant over all other religions. Allaah - the Most High - said:

"It is He who has sent His Messenger with the guidance and the religion of truth, that it may prevail over all other religions, even if the pagans detest it." [Soorah at-Tawbah 9:33].

And Allaah - the Most High - said:

"Allaah has promised to those amongst you who truly have eemaan (true faith and belief) and act in obedience to Allaah and His Messenger, that He will grant them ruler ship upon the earth, just as He granted it to those before them, and that He will establish their Religion for them and grant them the authority to practice their Religion which He chose and ordered them with. And He will certainly change their situation to one of security, after their fear. Providing that they worship and obey Me, not associating anything else in worship with Me. Then, whoever rejects this favour by disobedience to their Lord - then they are the rebellious transgressors." [Soorah an-Noor 24:55].

[4] The religion of Islaam is a complete religion comprising both 'aqeedah (beliefs) and sharee'ah (laws).

  • It commands them with tawheed (to single out Allaah alone for worship) and prohibits them from shirk (associating partners with Allaah, in that which is particular to Him).
  • It commands them with being truthful and prohibits them from lying.
  • It commands them with 'adl (justice) and prohibits them from injustice and oppression.
  • It commands them with fulfilling trusts and prohibits them from acting treacherously.
  • It commands them keeping promises and prohibits them from breaking them.
  • It commands them with kindness and good treatment of parents and prohibits them from disobedience to them in that which is not sinful.
  • It commands them with joining the ties of relations and prohibits them from severing them.
  • It commands them with good treatment of neighbours and prohibits the causing of harm to them.

In short, Islaam orders alls that is good, from manners and morals, and prohibits all that is evil from it. Likewise, it orders all actions which are righteous and good and prohibits all actions that are evil and harmful. Allaah - the Most High - said:

"Indeed Allaah enjoins upon you justice, kindness and the giving of good to relatives and near ones. And He prohibits you from all shameful and evil deeds, oppression and transgression. Thus He admonishes you, that you may take heed and be reminded." [Soorah an-Nahl 16:90].

“Anyone who possesses a speck of Pride in his heart will not enter Paradise”

Explanation of the hadeeth:

“Anyone who possesses a speck of Pride in his heart will not enter Paradise”

Author:Shaikh-ul-Islaam Ibn Taimiyyah
Source:Majmoo‘-ul Fataawaa (vol. 7, pg. 677-679)
Produced by:al-manhaj.com

Shaykh-ul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (rahimahullaah) was asked:
Regarding the Prophet’s statement: “Anyone who possesses a speck of pride (kibr) in his heart will not enter Paradise” – Is this hadeeth specific only to the believers or (is it specific only to the) unbelievers? If we were to say that it is specific for the Believers then (is not) our statement trivial considering (the fact that) the believers shall enter Paradise due to their Eemaan. If, on the other hand, we were to say that the hadeeth is specific for the unbelievers then what is the relevance of the statement (since it is already known that the unbelievers shall not gain admission to Paradise?

He (rahimahullaah) answered:
(Another) authentically reported wording of (this particular version of the) hadeeth is, “Anyone who possesses half a mustard seed of Pride (kibr) in his heart will not be granted admission to Paradise. And anyone who possesses half a mustard seed of Eemaan will not enter the (Eternal) Fire.” [1]

Kibr that openly opposes and negates Eemaan results in the banishment of the one who holds it from entering al-Jannah as is found in Allaah’s statement:

“And your Lord said: "Invoke Me, I will respond to your (invocation). Verily! Those who scorn (yastakbiroon – Have kibr) My worship, they will surely enter Hell in humiliation!" [Surah Ghaafir: 60]

This is the Kibr of Iblees (the Devil), Pharaoh and all the others who possessed the Kibr, which invalidated Eemaan. This is also the Kibr that the Jews possess and those whom Allaah has described to us by saying:

“Is it that whenever there came to you a Messenger with what you yourselves desired not, you grew arrogant? Some, you disbelieved and some, you killed.” [Surah Al-Baqarah: 87]

Al-Kibr, in its entirety, openly opposes the essentials of al-Eemaan. As such he who has an atom’s weight of Kibr in his heart will not act upon that which Allaah has prescribed, nor will he abstain from that which Allaah has prohibited. Instead his Kibr shall result in his disavowal and rejection of the truth and instill in him contempt of others. This, precisely, is the explanatory definition of al-Kibr provide by the Prophet as is found in the complete version of the initial Hadeeth [“The one who possesses an atom’s weight of Kibr in his heart shall not be granted admission to Paradise.”]

He (sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) was asked: “[But] O Messenger of Allaah! A man likes to have fine clothing and footwear. Is this included in Kibr?” He responded, “No. Allaah is Beauty and loves Beauty. Kibr is the rejection of truth (Batrul-Haqq) and condescension of others (waa ghaamtun-naas).” [2]

The statement “Batarul-Haqq” denotes distain and rejection of the Truth, while “ghaamtun-naas” implies contempt and condescension of others from amongst mankind.

Therefore the one who possesses half a mustard seed of it (Kibr) rejects the Truth that he was ordered to accept and act upon. At the same time, the Kibr instills in him a sense of condescension that inculcates in the individual an oppressive demeanor producing transgression over the rights of others.

The one who neglects his obligations (due to his rejection of them) and is oppressive to others from amongst the creation is not to be amongst the people of Jannah (while in this state), or deserving of it. On the contrary, such an individual is to be counted amongst the people who are threatened with punishment!

His (sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) statement: “Anyone who possesses a speck of Kibr in his heart will not be granted admission to Paradise” implies that the individual is not from the people of Jannah and is not deserving of it. But if he repents, or he possesses Hasaanaat (righteous deeds) that expiate his sins, or Allaah has given him Ibtillaah (trials and tests) in the form of calamities that have expunged his sins, or similar things; then for that individual the recompense of Kibr – which originally was a barrier for him to enter Jannah – is eliminated and he gains admission (to it). Similarly Allaah, due to Divine Grace, may forgive the individual (the sin of) Kibr. [3] None shall gain admission (to Paradise) while possessing an atom’s weight of Kibr. As a result, those (scholars) discussing this Hadeeth, and other Hadeeth that have a similar theme, have stated:

“Unconditional admission (to Paradise) – that is not in conjunction with punishment (for the sin of Kibr) – is what is being negated in this Hadeeth; not the admission to Jannah that is granted to those who have entered the Fire (to be purified and cleansed) and then are allowed admission to Paradise thereafter. (On the other hand) if a hadeeth explicitly declares that a particular person is in Jannah or that a particular person is from the People of Jannah, it would then be understood that he would enter the Jannah and not enter the fire (beforehand).”

After this clarification we come to understand the true meaning of these narrations as being that the one who possesses an atom’s weight of Kibr in his heart is not from the people of Paradise (up to that point) and shall not gain admission into it without punishment (for his sin). Surely he deserves punishment – due to the enormity of the sin – similar to those who perform the Major (Kabaa’ir) sins. Allaah may punish him in the Fire as long as He wishes, but none from amongst the people of Tawheed shall remain in the Fire eternally.

This is to be the way we understand all the Hadeeth that have a similar meaning. This understanding is to be used when seeking the meaning of his (sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) statement: “The one who severs the ties of the womb shall not enter Jannah”[4] or “You shall not enter Jannah until you believe. And you shall not believe until you love one another. Shall I inform you of something that if you do you shall (truly) love each other? Spread the greetings of Salaam amongst yourselves.”

This is the understanding that we are to have when pondering over the ahaadeeth that contain threats of Punishment. In this way we understand that the hadeeth is general and can be attributed to both the unbelievers and the Muslims.

If one was to say: “All the Muslims enter Jannah due to their Islaam.” The response is that not all Muslims enter Jannah without punishment. Surely the people who have been threatened (with punishment in the Hereafter due to their sins) shall enter into the Fire to remain in it for the period that Allaah so wills even though they are not unbelievers. The individual who has some Eemaan coinciding with major sins may enter into the Fire and exit from it as a result of the Shafaa‘ah (Intercession) of the Prophet or by other reported means as articulated by the Prophet when he (sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“My Shafaa‘ah is for the people who commit Majors Sins from amongst my Ummah.” [5]

And he (sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said as is reported in the Saheeh: “I shall bring out of the Fire the one who possesses half a mustard seed of Eemaan.” [6]

In this way we understand what is in store for those whom Allaah has threatened with punishment – the murderer, fornicator/adulterer, the one who consumes intoxicants, and the one who misappropriates the wealth of the orphans, the one who witnesses falsehood and others who perform the deeds of the people of major sins. They – even if they are not unbelievers – are not deserving of the Jannah that they are promised (as Muslims) without first being (cleansed and purged through) punishment.

The madh-hab (way and belief) of Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamaa‘ah is that the Foosaaq (deviant sinners) from amongst the general body of Muslims are not going to be eternally punished in the Fire as held by the Khawaarij[7] and the Mu‘tazilah.[8] They are not complete in their religion (Deen), Eemaan and obedience to Allaah.[9] They have good and bad deeds that necessitate a measure of punishment and reward. This is a concise dissertation regarding the issue.

[5] Translator’s Note: Turn to the Chapter “Shafaa‘ah for the People of Major Sins” (Pg. 61-108) in the highly beneficial book of the world-renowned Muhaddith, Shaykh Muqbil bin Haadee al-Waadi‘ee (rahimahullaah) titled: “Ash-Shafaa‘ah.” In the chapter the Shaykh reports seventy-six (76) ahaadeeth showing that those who perform Major sins are not excluded from the Shafaa‘ah of Allaah’s Messenger (sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam). This particular hadeeth can be found in the book on page 85, hadeeth number 56. Shaikh Abu ‘Abdir-Rahmaan Muqbil bin Haadee reports that the Hadeeth is collected by at-Tirmidhee (v. 4, pg. 45) on the authority of Anas and Jaabir. He then states: “And this hadeeth is Hasan Saheeh Ghareeb (good and authentic yet scarce in this mode). The Hadeeth is reported by Ibn Khuzaymah (pg. 270), Ibn Hibbaan as is stated in the Mawrid (pg. 640), and al-Haakim (vol. 1, pg. 69) said: ‘This hadeeth is authentic and meets the requirements set by Al-Bukhaaree and Muslim even though they did not narrate it.’” Later on Shaykh Muqbil wrote: “Al-Haafidh Ibn Katheer said in his Tafseer (vol. 1, pg. 487) that its chain of narration is Saheeh and meets the requirements set by Al-Bukhaaree and Muslim.” The Shaykh then takes us step by step through the chain of narration and proves convincingly that the hadeeth does not meet the requirements of Al-Bukhaaree and Muslim due to the presence of Mu‘aamar reporting from Thaabit. For further detailed analysis turn to pg. 85-88. In Shaykh al-Albaani’s Saheeh al-Jaami‘, he declares the hadeeth Saheeh on the authority of Jaabir, Ibn ‘Abbas, Ibn ‘Umar, Ka‘b bin ‘Ajrah and Anas.

[6] Translator’s Note: This is a segment of the famous Hadeeth of Shafaa‘ah collected by Al-Bukhaaree (vol. 13, pg. 472)

[7] Translator’s Note: Khawaarij is the plural of Kharijee – They are those who declared that a Muslim becomes a disbeliever due to committing a major sin alone.

[8] Translator’s Note: The Mu‘tazilah deem the one who does not agree with their understanding of Tawheed (7 false principles) is deemed a Mushrik. They believe that the sinners who are Muslim shall be in a place between Jannah and the Fire. Their beliefs are built on false logical deductions that led them to negate many of the Names and Attributes of Allaah. They were the deviant group who opposed the Imaam of Ahlus-Sunnah, Ahmad Ibn Hanbal by falsely claiming that the Qur’aan is created and not the Speech of Allaah.

[9] Translator’s Note: The Murji’ah believe that sins, major or minor, do not affect faith and that Eemaan neither increases nor decreases. They claim that actions are not part of faith and that people do not vary in faith.
