Yesterday, during the annual ceremony which was held by the staff of the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques, the holy Ka’abah was adorned with a new covering, known as the Kiswa.

The new Kiswa is made up of silk and pure gold-trim and it is consisted of three parts: a sitaar (curtain) of the ka'abah door, an inner lining curtain inside the ka'abah and a hizam (belt). It consists of 47 pieces of cloth and each piece is 14 meters long and 101 cm wide and it is wrapped around the ka'abah and fixed to the ground with copper rings.

The new 14-meter high covering was broadcast live. It is worth mentioning that the kiswa costs SR20 million and is produced at a specially-designed factory.
