I Shall Forgive You for What You Have Done...

Allah (swt) says,
“O son of Adam, so long as you call
upon Me, and ask of Me, I shall forgive
you for what you have done, and I shall
not mind. O son of Adam, were your
sins to reach the clouds of the sky and
were you then to ask forgiveness of Me,
I would forgive you. O son of Adam
were you to come to Me with sins nearly
as great as the earth, and were you
then to face Me, ascribing no partner to Me, I would bring you forgiveness
nearly as great as it.”

Al-Mutawakkil : One Who Depends on Allah

One of the names of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him)

Narrated Ataa ibn Yasar who said: ‘I met Abdullaah ibn ‘Amr ibn al-‘Aas and asked him, “Tell me about the description of Allaah’s Messenger which is mentioned in the Tawrah (i.e. Old Testament).” He replied, “Yes. By Allaah, he is described in the Tawrah with some of the qualities attributed to him in the Qur’aan as follows:
‘O Prophet! We have sent you as a witness (for Allaah’s True Religion), and a giver of glad tidings (to the faithful believers), and a warner (to the unbelievers), and a guardian of the illiterates. You are My slave and My Messenger. I have named you “al-Mutawakkil” (who depends upon Allaah). You are neither discourteous, harsh, nor a noise-maker in the markets, and you do not do evil to those who do evil to you, but you deal with them with forgiveness and kindness. Allaah will not let him (the Prophet) die until he makes straight the crooked people by making them say: “None has the right to be worshipped but Allaah,” with which will be opened blind eyes and deaf ears and enveloped hearts.”
Reported by al-Bukhaaree, no. 1997. [ Related by Bukhaaree in chapter dealing with the tafseer of Surah Fath.]

Smoking Shisha (Hookah) is Haram - Permenant Committee

Fatwa no. 14777

Q: I am a married woman with children and I am a practicing Muslim – all praise be to Allah – but my husband smokes Shisha (hookah, water pipe). I have advised him, in vain, to give it up. In fact, he has sworn by Allah that he will stop smoking it, but he has not done so. After this, I took an oath by Allah that, if he did not stop smoking, I would go to my parents, but he has not stopped and I have not gone to my parents. What should I do with my husband? What is the ruling on the oath that I took? What is the ruling on smoking Shisha? I hope that you will answer my letter.

A: First: smoking shisha is Haram (prohibited) because it is an obnoxious habit and includes many harmful effects.

Second: It is Wajib (obligatory) on your husband to fulfill his oath and stop smoking Shisha.

Third: You have done well to advise your husband to stop smoking Shisha. You should continue doing so and make Du‘a’ (supplication) to Allah for Him to guide your husband.
Regarding the oath that you broke, you have to make Kaffarah (expiation) for it and you should not go to stay with your parents. The Kaffarah is to feed ten Miskin (needy people), to clothe them, or to free a believing slave. If you are unable to do any of these things, you should observe Sawm (Fasting) for three days.

May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.

Ruling on smoking and using hookah – Shaykh Ibn Baaz

Q: What is the ruling on smoking and using hookah?

A: Smoking and using hookah are prohibited, because they contain evil and much harm. Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) made lawful for His servants all kinds of lawful and good things and made unlawful to them all kinds of evil things, as He (Glorified and Exalted be He) says to His Prophet (peace be upon him): They ask you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) what is lawful for them (as food). Say: “Lawful unto you are At-Tayyibât [all kind of Halâl (lawful-good) foods which Allâh has made lawful (meat of slaughtered eatable animals, milk products, fats, vegetables and fruits)]. Surah Al-Ma’idah, 5: 4

He (Glorified and Exalted be He) also says with regard to the description of His Prophet (peace be upon him): “…he allows them as lawful At-Tayyibât (i.e. all good and lawful as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons, foods), and prohibits them as unlawful Al-Khabâ’ith (i.e. all evil and unlawful as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons and foods)”  Surah Al-A`raf, 7: 157

No type of smoking is from the lawful good things, but they are from the evil things due to their much harm. They are not from the lawful-good things which Allah (Exalted be He) permitted; therefore, they should be abandoned and one should beware of approaching them and should strive against his evil soul to avoid these evil things, because the soul persists in evil, except those relieved by Allah’s Mercy. It is the duty of the believer to strive against his soul to set aside whatever harms him from these and other evil things.

A 2005 WHO report states that smoking using a waterpipe poses a serious potential health hazard and is not a safe alternative to cigarette smoking. The average hookah session typically lasts more than 40 minutes, and consists of 50 to 200 inhalations that each range from 0.15 to 0.50 liters of smoke. In an hour-long smoking session of hookah, users consume about 100 to 200 times the volume of smoke of a cigarette. The chemical compositions of cigarette smoke and hookah smoke are different, however, as the workings of the charcoal in the modern hookah causes the tobacco mixture to be heated to a lower temperature, as opposed to the higher temperature in a cigarette where the tobacco is directly burnt. Consequently, the potential health effects of hookah smoke are expected to be very different.

Want to have a good death? Live a good life! Shaykh Uthaymeen

O mankind, have Taqwa of Allah the Exalted and prepare for the meeting with your Lord, with the preparation of the righteous. Verily the state of man is as his Lord the Exalted said:

(يَا أَيُّهَا الْأِنْسَانُ إِنَّكَ كَادِحٌ إِلَى رَبِّكَ كَدْحاً فَمُلاقِيهِ) (الانشقاق:6) O man! Verily, you are returning towards your Lord with your deeds and actions (good or bad), a sure returning, so you will meet Him. (Soorah Al Inshiqaq 84:6)

O Muslims, verily the person does not know where he will die. And he does not know when he will die. As Allah the Exalted said:

(وَمَا تَدْرِي نَفْسٌ مَاذَا تَكْسِبُ غَداً وَمَا تَدْرِي نَفْسٌ بِأَيِّ أَرْضٍ تَمُوتُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَلِيمٌ خَبِيرٌ)(لقمان: من الآية34) No person knows what he will earn tomorrow, and no person knows in what land he will die. Verily, Allah is All-Knower, All-Aware (of things). (Soorah Luqman 31: 34)

If we don’t know what we will earn tomorrow while this is from our actions, then surely we do not know when we will die as this is from the actions of Allah the Exalted. Since we do not know in what land we will die, despite the fact that the person travels to the land by choice, and since we do not know when we will die, therefore the place of death is unknown and the time of death is unknown. We ask Allah to grant us and you and good ending.

It is not importance when the person will die or where the person will die. It is not important that he dies in Mecca or in Medina or another place from the lands of Allah. It is not important that he dies on Friday, or Monday or any other day of the week. The only thing which is important is in what condition the person will die. This is what is important. In what condition will the person die? Will you die upon Imaan (faith), sincerity, and Tawheed? We ask Allah to grant this to all of us. Or will you die upon doubt, shirk, kufr and obstinacy and ingratitude? This is what is important; this is what is important, O Muslims. But whoever wants to die upon good then let him do good. For surely Allah the Exalted is too Generous and too Kind to abandon His slave during the time of difficulty if he used to know and acknowledge Allah in times of ease.

The Prophet صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلمsaid:
تَعَرَّفْ إلَى اللَّهِ فِي الرَّخَاءِ يَعْرِفُك فِي الشِّدَّةِ
Know and acknowledge Allah in times of ease and prosperity, and He will know you in times of difficulty.

What is more difficult than the person’s life coming to an end, what is more difficult than the person leaving this world?! Thus if the person knew and acknowledged his Lord during times of ease, by obedience to Him and drawing near to Him with worship of Him and constantly remembering Him, then surely Allah the Exalted will know him during his time of difficulty. May Allah grant us and you that. The only thing that matters is in what condition the person will die.

Wearing dirty clothes is not from humility – Explained by Shaykh Fawzan

Questioner:
May Allah grant you good. The questioner says: An Imaam of a masjid has a lot of money; but when he comes to the prayer, he comes wearing a dirty Izar and a dirty shirt. And when I say to him: “Why don’t you buy some new clothes for the prayer”? He says: “Whoever humbles himself for Allah, He will elevate him”. So what is the ruling for his prayer?

Shaykh Fawzan: This is not humility. Allah the Exalted says:
يَا بَنِي آدَمَ خُذُوا زِينَتَكُمْ عِنْدَ كُلِّ مَسْجِدٍ

O children of Adam, take your adornment at every masjid. (Soorah Al-’Araf 7:31)

This means for every prayer. Adornment is not only covering the awrah, rather adornment includes clothes, beautifying oneself for the prayer. You are facing the Lord of all that exists; you are standing in front of Him. Therefore beautify yourself with what you are able to from adornment; in recognition of the prayer, and exalting the standing before your Lord. This is something desired, and favorable.

And the hadith says:
إِذَا وَسَّعَ اللَّهُ عليكم فَوْسِعُوا
When Allah makes you wealthier then you should clothe yourself properly.

And he says:
إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبَّ أَنْ يُرَى أَثَرُ نِعْمَتِهِ عَلَى عَبْدِهِ
Verily Allah loves to see the effects of His favors upon His slave.

O my brother this is not humility. Yes, do not wear extravagant clothes. Do not wear extravagant clothes such that it becomes an issue of fame or notoriety. Wear moderate clothes which are clean and beautiful.
إِنَّ اللَّهَ جَمِيلٌ يُحِبُّ الْجَمَالَ
Verily Allah is Jameel and He loves beauty.

Complain Only to Allah

He said, “I only complain of my suffering and my grief to Allah , and I know from Allah that which you do not know.” [12:86]

Giving Salaams to the Opposite Sex – Shaykh Muqbil ibn Haadee

The questioner asks about verbally giving the Salaams (to women).

Shaykh Muqbil: Verbally giving the Salaam, if she and he are safe from Fitnah, then there is no harm in him saying: As-Salaamu Alaykum.  If he fears that the Salaam will lead to that which is after it from Fitnah, then no. As is said:

نظرة فإبتسامة فسلام فكلام فموعد فلقاء

A look; then a smile; then Salaams; then speaking; then (setting) an appointment; then a meeting
So if he does not fear Fitnah for himself and he does not fear for her then there is no harm in saying: As-Salaamu Alaykum. The wives of the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) used to be greeted with Salaam. And Allaah’s Aid is sought.

Questioner:  Does this apply to responding, as well, O Shaykh?

Shaykh: Huh?

Questioner: Is responding to As-Salaamu Alaykum obligatory upon the woman?

Shaykh: Upon the woman, yes, she is to respond. The same applies to her; if she fears Fitnah for herself or that she will put the man to trial then she responds within herself. Or she moves her lips with some sound (coming out) such that he does not hear her. But if she does not fear (Fitnah) for herself or he is a Mahram for her, then there is no harm in her saying: Wa Alaykum As-Salaam. However, if she fears the occurrence of Fitnah, then there is nothing equivalent to the safety of the heart.

Advice on Sisters Exercising and Working Out – Shaykh Muqbil ibn Haadee

Question:
What is the legislative ruling on the woman who exercises, whether within her home or outside of her home?

Answer:
If it is within the home then there is no harm; rather, we advise with this. If she has work to do then her work takes more precedence. Meaning, work in the service of her house and her home; it is appropriate for her to begin with this. Similarly, if she is with the women and foreign men do not see her, then there is no harm with this, insha-Allaah. Rather, we advise with this. This is because being stagnant and idle will perhaps lead to boredom and weakness in preservation (of the obligations); and to what else, O brothers? To weakness of the body. So what is correct is that the Muslim male and the Muslim female are in need of exercise, within the limits of the legislation.

Worrying about the Future – Shaykh Saalih Al-Fawzaan

Question:
Noble Shaykh, may Allaah grant you success, (the questioner) says: I preserve the five prayers within their times, I am constant in reciting the Qur’aan, and superogatory fasting, and for Allaah is the praise. However, at times fear of the future overtakes me; the future in terms of livelihood and provisions; and fear over the future and provisions of my children; specifically within these recent times. From that which it has caused to enter my soul is grief, anxiety, and confusion. So what is your guidance and advice regarding these affairs?

Answer:
This is from Shaytaan. It is upon you to seek refuge from Shaytaan; if there comes to you something from these (matters) seek refuge with Allaah and have a good thought about Allaah. Put your trust in Allaah, and Allaah will rectify your affairs, insha-Allaah.
