Any Evil Doer can think he is a Good Person

Fudayl ibn `Iyyaad said:

“Any evil doer can think he is a good person, the ignorant can think of himself as a scholar, the greedy thinks of himself generous, the stupid thinks of himself as intelligent. Life is short and hopes are unlimited, yet many are too dazzled with themselves to see a clear picture for advancement.”

Adh-Dhahabee commented: I swear by Allaah that Fudayl is right. One is also unjust, yet believes he is the oppressed, eats unlawfully and thinks himself pious, a sinner and thinks himself honest, and seeks knowledge but hasn’t even learned to implement it to his family.”

Wage

Aal-e-Imran [3:185]
Everyone shall taste death. And only on the Day of Resurrection shall you be paid your wages in full. And whoever is removed away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise, he indeed is successful. The life of this world is only the enjoyment of deception (a deceiving thing).

The Problems That Persist In The Heart Of The Youths

by Shaikh Muhammad ibn Saalih al-Uthaymeen [d.1421H]
Translated by Abu Aaliyah Abdullah ibn Dwight Battle
Al Hujjah and Authentic Statements Publishers, USA, 2007

Thoughts and whispers that contradict the religion do not frequent the dead heart, on account of its being lifeless and a destroyed organ. Shaytaan does not want more than with what he is charged. For that reason, it was said to Ibn Mas’ud radiyallahu anhu or Ibn Abbas radiyallahu anhu that the Jews say: “They do not get any whispers while they pray.” In other words uneasiness does not afflict them. He said: “They have spoken the truth and what can Shaytaan do with a heart that is already ruined.”

However, as for the heart that is alive, which contains a portion of faith, Shaytaan attacks it. There is not any leniency or pause in his assault. Shaytaan casts misgivings contradicting his religion. If the servant submits to these misgivings and doubts, they serve as the most severe means of destruction. Eventually, he casts doubts on this youth about his Lord, religion, and belief. Whenever Shaytaan finds weakness and frustration in the heart, he occupies it until he separates this adolescent from his religion. In contrast, whenever Shaytaan finds a heart that is strong and steadfast he succumbs to defeat. His scheme is feeble and as a result he is made miserable.

The whispers that Shaytaan hurls into the heart do not affect the person if he uses the cure mentioned by the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam).

Ibn Abbas (radiyallahu anhu) narrated that a person came to the Prophet (sallallahu alahyi wa sallam) and said: “I have a certain feeling within myself which being a burning ember is more desirable to me than my uttering it.” The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa salaam) said: “All praise is due to Allah who has rejected his scheme [i.e driven away Shaytaan's evil thoughts]. [Collected by Abu Dawood in his Sunnan #5122 and graded Sahih by Al-Albaani]

Some people from the Companions came and said, “O Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) we find within ourselves (such a feeling) which overwhelms each one of us from speaking about it (i.e he feels it imposing to speak about it).” The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) asked: “Do you also experience it?” The Companions replied, “Yes.” The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) replied “That is true Imaan (faith)”. [Collected by Muslim in his Saheeh #132]

The meaning of having true faith is the evil thoughts that you face – and your rejection of them – does not harm your faith a single bit. In fact, rejecting these thoughts is a proof that your faith is sincere and has not been affected by any loss.

The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: “Shaytaan comes to one of you and says, “Who has created this? Who has created that?” until he says: “Who has created your Lord?” When he reaches this limit, then seek refuge in Allah and in His Compassion.” [Sahih: Agreed upon. On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (radiyallaahu anhu).

And in a similar Hadeeth in Abu Dawood (#4722) with a Hasan isnad (chain of narration), the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said:

“So! Say Allah is One, Allah is Independent (as-Samad), He does not give birth nor was He given birth to, then spit towards the left three times and seek refuge from the Accursed Shaytaan.”

In these ahadeeth the Companions described illnesses to the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). He (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) in turn prescribed four things for them as a remedy:
  • Abstain from these temptations. This means to completely turn away from it then act as though it never existed. Then occupy yourself with the remembrance of Allah (i.e. recitation of the Quran and dhikr from the Sunnah).
  • Seek refuge in Allah from the whispers of the Accursed Shaytaan.
  • Say I believe in Allah and His Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
  • Recite Surah Al-Ikhlaas. Then spit to your left side three times and say I seek refuge in Allah from the Accursed Shaytaan.

Sadaqat

Verily, those who give Sadaqât (i.e. Zakât and alms, etc.), men and women, and lend Allâh a goodly loan, it shall be increased manifold (to their credit), and theirs shall be an honourable good reward (i.e. Paradise).
 Al-Hadid [57:18]

Are There People in Paradise or the Fire Now? – Al-Albaani

Questioner: O Utsaadh! Are there people who have now entered Paradise or people who have entered the Fire? Like the aayah in Surah Yaa Seen, “It was said to him, ‘Enter Paradise.’” [Yaa Seen 36:26]

Al-Albaani: This is about what will be. As for now, there is nothing but the life of al-Barzakh. Entering Paradise or the Fire is appointed at the Reckoning … [at] the resurrection on the Day of Resurrection.
Questioner: Even the martyrs and Prophets?

Al-Albaani: All of them. But their souls are in a specific state of bliss as he عليه السلام said, “The souls of the martyrs are in the crops of green birds, eating from the fruits of Paradise,” and likewise, “The souls of the believers are in the bellies of green birds, eating from the fruits of Paradise.” So this bliss is that of the souls, as for the bliss of the body and soul together and likewise the torment [of them both together], that will not be except after the resurrection.

Questioner: Okay, O Ustaadh! What we understood, according to our intellect, is that when a person is living, his soul and body are interconnected …, when Allaah the Mighty and Majestic says, “Think not of those who are killed in the Way of Allah as dead. Nay, they are alive …” [Aali-Imraan 3:169] what I mean is [i.e., what I understand from the aayah is], ‘Nay, they are alive …’ i.e., alive as in the soul is in the body, connected.

Al-Albaani: This is something well-known which does not need to be asked about, the Prophet explained it for you and gave you the answer and I mentioned it to you earlier … the souls of the martyrs are in the crops of green birds, what does this mean? That firstly, the life of a martyr is commensurate with his rank before Allaah and, secondly, [at the same time it is also commensurate] with his existence in barzakh.

Life differs.  Life in Barzakh differs from life in this world, and life in the Hereafter differs from both of those forms of life together, life in the Hereafter is different from life in al-Barzakh and life in this world too.

For this reason it is not permissible for a person to employ analogical reasoning [qiyas] … making an analogy of that which is Unseen based upon that which is, such that you say, ‘We don’t know life except in this manner!’

Don’t use this life which you are familiar with to make an analogy of that life which you are not acquainted with; especially when some texts have been related which totally clarify for you the fact that the life of martyrs which our Lord the Mighty and Majestic affirmed in the Quraan, saying, “Nay, they are alive, with their Lord, receiving provision …” … what is their provision?

It is not [various] dishes like those we have, their provision is that they eat by way of what that green bird eats, this is the provision [being referred to], the hadith explains the Quraan.

Questioner: When the Prophet عليه الصلاة والسلام saw Paradise and the Fire and found those who were being punished therein and those who were in bliss, how is that then?

Al-Albaani: Yes, the [differing] states that the Companions of Paradise and those of the Fire will be in [i.e., after Barzakh, on the Day of Judegement] was unveiled to him–this is the true unveiling [kashf] which the Sufis have stolen and attributed to themselves; it [i.e., such kashf] is only for the Prophets and Messengers.

Ibn al Qayyim: Meetings Between Friends

Ibn al Qayyim: Meetings Between Friends
There are two kinds of meetings between friends:

The first kind is a meeting based on sociability and spending
time, in which there are more disadvantages than
advantages, the least of which is corruption of the heart,
and wasting time.

The second kind is a meeting for the sake of supporting one
another, and recommending one another to the truth and to
patience. This is the best kind, yet there are still three
disadvantages therein,

1) Flattering each other.

2) Being excessively talkative.

3) That such meetings become a habit or routine and they
fail to achieve their aims.

In general, the result of social meetings will be derived from
the source, which is either for the soul inclined to evil, or for
the heart and the peaceful soul. If the source is good,
surely the fruit will also be good. Pure souls derive their
nature from their Lord, while evil ones derive their nature
from the devil. Hence, Allah, the Exalted and Ever Majestic,
renders good women for good men and bad men for bad
women.

Advice Concerning the Prayer, for the Woman With Many Children

QUESTION

A woman prays in her house, having many young children and no family members or servants to assist her. She feels that her prayers are always deficient or unacceptable as a result of her lack of concentration due to the children's constant activities. What is your advice to her?

ANSWER by Shaykh Muhammad 'Umar Baazmool, instructor at Umm Al-Quraa University in Makkah

This woman, so long as she offers the prayer with its prescribed manner, after being purified (having wudhoo'), reciting (Soorah Al-Faatihah), standing, bowing, raising up, prostrating, sitting, prostrating again, with tama'neenah (resting fully in each position), then her prayer is valid in shaa' Allaah.

And she should feel free of any blame by offering this prayer, by Allaah's Permission. She (also) gets the reward for all of her work in the house and taking care of her children.

One time the Messenger (sallallaahu 'alayhe wa sallam) was leading the people in prayer in the masjid, and he shortened the prayer. So they said, "O Messenger of Allaah! You have prayed in a way that we have not seen from you before!" or a phrase similar to this.

He replied (sallallaahu 'alayhe wa sallam):

"I heard the crying of a child, and I supposed that his mother was praying with us, so I wanted to free his mother for him." [1]

So here the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu 'alayhe wa sallam), praying one of the obligatory prayers in congregation, shortened the prayer, showing concern for this child. So in this there is evidence to support that if a woman was to shorten her (recitation in her) prayer due to her responsibilities toward her house or her child, while she has no assistance, then there is no harm in that, so long as she offered her prayer in the manner ordained in the Sharee'ah. And Allaah, the Mighty and Exalted, says [2]:

( So fear Allaah to the best of your ability )

And the Messenger (sallallaahu 'alayhe wa sallam) said:

"...And when I have ordered you with something, then do as much of it as you are able." [3]

Therefore she offers the prayer to the best of her ability, fulfilling her duty and thus freeing herself from any blame. In addition, she will be rewarded by Allaah, the Glorified and Exalted, for being a good wife to her husband, taking care of the family, and staying on top of all her responsibilities. By these things she reaps great rewards and obtains lofty virtues. And by these things, her reward is with Allaah, the Glorified and Exalted.

She will also have a magnificent reward from Allaah, the Glorified and Exalted, for all her patience and forbearance, (as Allaah says) [4]:

( Verily those who persevere will receive their reward without measure )

Who Has More Right To Be Spent Upon, The Wife Or The Mother? by Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih

A woman serving her husband/ Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan

Question:
May Allah give you good noble Shaykh, the questioner says: ‘We hear a lot these days, that the wife is not required to serve her husband as it relates to cooking and washing clothes. Therefore we would like from you a word to explain this affair.

Shaykh Fawzan:
The woman now has evolved; she doesn’t take care of her husband. Now if you need her to take care of some of your needs, she doesn’t stay in the house. The husband comes and sits in the house and waits and she doesn’t come (home); or she comes at the last part of the night. Now the women are rebellious. It is from the Sunnah for the woman to serve her husband. The female companions, may Allah be pleased with them, served their husbands, they cooked and took care of the home and they were the female companions, the best women of this nation. Faatima the daughter of Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah are upon him and may Allah be pleased with her; used to carry water on her neck such that the rope left a mark on her neck. She requested from the Messenger that he provide her with a servant and he refused. He refused to provide her with a servant and he ordered her to seek help by remembrance of Allah and seeking forgiveness from Allah; and she was the daughter of Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah are upon him.

The Superiority of Remembering Allah after Fajr until Sunrise

Anas ibn Malik (radi Allahu Anhu) said, The Prophet (sallahu Alayhi wa salim) said,

” Whoever prays Fajr in congregation ,after that sits and remembers Allah until the sunrises, following this he prays two rakah earns the reward of Hajj or Umrah.”

Collected by At-Tirmithi (579) Imam At-Tirmithi and Al-Albani (May Allah mercy on them both) graded this hadeeth as Hasan. 586
Benefits for this subject:
  • Imam At-Tirmithi titled a section in his Jami called, “The Recommendation to sit the Masjid after Fajr until sunrise.”
  • Out of the six books of Hadeeth on Imam At-Tirmithi narrated this hadeeth
  • The two Rakah here are referred to as Salatul Duha or Ishraq.
** An Issue specific for women **

Is the woman included for this reward if she prays in her house?
Shaykh Abdul Aziz bin Baz(may Allah have mercy on him) said,” If  a woman prays in her Musalla then after Fajr remembers Allah by Thikr or reading the Quran until sunup then offers two Rakah she gets reward mentioned in the hadeeth. (Majmu Fatawa vol 11)

Shaykh Muqbil (may Allah rest him in Jannah) said, “Yes she is. If a woman prays fajr in her house and sits and remembers Allah until sunrise.” [Verdicts for the Muslim Woman page 121. 1st edition printed by Maktabah San'a Al-Athareeyah 2007]

Concerning the Foundations of Imaan and Obstacles in the Path of Imaan

There are 3 main types of believers:
*(footnotes in italics)

This chapter is an explanation of Allah’s Statement {Surah Faatir 35:32}:

ثُمَّ أَوْرَثْنَا الْكِتَابَ الَّذِينَ اصْطَفَيْنَا مِنْ عِبَادِنَا فَمِنْهُمْ ظَالِمٌ لِّنَفْسِهِ وَمِنْهُم مُّقْتَصِدٌ وَمِنْهُمْ سَابِقٌ بِالْخَيْرَاتِ بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ ذَلِكَ هُوَ الْفَضْلُ الْكَبِيرُ

“Then We caused Our chosen servants to inherit the Book.  Among them are self-oppressors, among them are frugal ones, and from them are those who rush forth to perfom good deeds, by the Permission of Allah.”

The author’s reference to the 3 levels of believers found in this Verse is similar to Ibn Katheer’s own explanation of it, and it is in accordance with what has been said by Ibn Abbas, Ibn Mas’ood, and others from the Companions, {May Allah be pleased with them.}  Ibn Abbas {radiallahu anhu} said, “They are the Ummah (Nation) of Muhammad {alayhee salatul wasalaam}, the ones whom Allah caused to inherit all the books that He sent down.  The oppressive one will be forgiven, the frugal one will be given an easy reckoning, and the one who rushed forth (to do good deeds) will enter Paradise with no reckoning.” {Tafseer al-Qur’an al-’Atheem, 6/546}

This chapter serves to further clarify the falsehood of the beliefs of the Murji’ah and Khawaarij, and builds upon the previous 2 chapters. It refutes the Murji’ah since Allah has described the believers as being three distinctly different levels, destroying their false claim that Imaan is only one level.  If Imaan is only one level, then how can it be that some believers are considered self-oppressors, and others are frugal, and others are those who rush forth to do good deeds? It is also a further refutation of the Khawaarij, since Allah has described some of the believers as being oppressors, and this oppression did not take them outside of the fold of Islaam.
1)  Saabiqoon ilal-Khayraat – Those who rush to do good deeds:
Those who rush to do good deeds are those who perform both the obligatory and recommended deeds, while avoiding both the prohibited and disliked affairs.
2) Muqtasidoon – Those who are frugal and selective:
The frugal ones are those who restrict themselves to performing only those deeds that are obligatory, while avoiding only the prohibited affairs *(footnotes in italics).

(i.e., Meaning that they fall into disliked affairs and leave off recommended deeds.)
            3) Thaalimoon li-Anfusihim – Those who oppress themselves:

Those who oppress themselves are those who mix good deeds with the bad ones.

 *(footnotes in  italics)

*(Meaning that they fall into prohibited affairs and leave off obligations.  In his Tafseer (6/546), Ibn Katheer (rahimahullah) said, explaining these three categories of believers: ”The self-oppressor falls short of performing his obligations and falls into some prohibited things.  The frugal one performs his obligations and stays away from prohibited things, however he tends to abandon some of the recommended deeds and falls into some disliked things.  The one who rushes to do good deeds performs both obligatory and recommended deeds, while staying away from both disliked and prohibited things.

He Lost The Woman, and He Lost His Religion

 Ibn al-Qayyim (Rahimahullah) narrated:

It is reported that in Egypt, there was a man who would maintain the mosques, making the call to prayer, etc. He was, by all outward means, an obedient person and devout worshipper
.
One day, as he usually would, he ascended the minaret to make the call to prayer. At the base of the minaret, there was a Christian woman standing. He saw her, and was seduced by her looks. So, he descended the minaret, went to her, and entered her home.

She said to him: “Who are you, and what do you want?”
He replied: “I want you.”
She said: “Why?”
He said: “You have enslaved my eyes, and you have captured my heart.”
She said: “I will never answer your desire in a doubtful or suspicious manner.”
He said: “Ok, so, I will marry you, then.”
She said: “You are a Muslim, and I am a Christian. My father will never allow me to marry you.”
He said: “So, I will become a Christian.”
She said: “If you wish to do so, go ahead.“

So, the man became a Christian in order to marry this woman, and lived with the woman’s family in her house. Later on that day, however, he was on the roof of the house. He fell from the roof and died without even having enjoyed his new bride. So, he lost the woman, and he lost his religion.”

A Short Term

[ Surah Ibrahim : 44]
“And, [O Muhammad], warn the people of a Day when the punishment will come to them and those who did wrong will say, “Our Lord, delay us for a short term; we will answer Your call and follow the messengers.” [But it will be said], Had you not sworn, before, that for you there would be no cessation?

The Dunya is like a Prison for the Believer. . .

It is mentioned that when al-Hafidh Ibn Hajr was the chief justice (of Egypt), one day he was passing through the market with a caravan, looking well groomed. So a Jew who was selling hot oil, looking very disheveled and dirty because of the oil, accosted him by grabbing the reins of his mule saying,

“Yaa Shaykhul-Islaam, you claim that your prophet said that the dunyaa is a prison for the mu’min and a jannah for the kaafir; so what type of prison are you in and what type of jannah am I in?“

He (Ibn Hajr) replied,

“Regarding what Allaah has prepared for me in the hereafter from its bliss, then it is as if I am in prison, and with regards to what Allaah has prepared for you in the hereafter from its punishment, then it is as if you are in jannah.”

At which point the Jew became a Muslim.
