LESSONS FROM SURAH AL-KAHF: There are four fitnahs or trials mentioned in this surah. The first trial mentioned is depicted in the story of the youth who went to the cave and how Allah rewarded them and took care of them. This story showed the Trial of Faith.
“It is We who relate to you, [O Muhammad], their story in truth. Indeed, they were youths who believed in their Lord, and We increased them in guidance.” [18:13]
These youth left a society that was disbelieving and because of their strong faith fled to the cave where for almost three centuries they were protected by Allah. This first story teaches us many lessons and amongst the most important lesson is that anything sacrificed for the sake of Allah is not lost. Make Iman your first priority, everything else comes after. These youth sacrificed and left their town for the sake of their iman, for the sake of Allah and this surah shows how they were rewarded through the mercy of Allah.
