Personal 151

Just got my blood pressure checked by a sister studying to become a nurse and subhanAllah it was beyond nerve racking! I ate something sweet right before and once she did do it, she started asking me if I have  diabetes which worried me but once she realized I just ate something sweet the sister let me know I was normal. Walhamdulilah never did I have serious problems with my health and I thank ALLAH for that. It`s a true blessing to be able to have great health and thanking allah. Always recognize your blessings!

Beware of becoming Ahlul Hawa
(People of Desire)!

Ten Things We Waste

By: Shaikh Mokhtar Maghroui
Based on a lesson of Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah

1 – Our Knowledge

Wasted by not taking action with it.

2 – Our Actions

Wasted by committing them with out sincerity.

3 – Our Wealth

Wasted by using on things that will not bring us ajr. We waste our money, our status, our authority, on things which have no benefit in this life or in akhirah.

4 – Our Hearts

Wasted because they are empty from the love of Allaah, and the feeling of longing to go to Him, and a feeling of peace and contentment. In it’s place, our hearts are filled with something or someone else.

5 – Our Bodies

Wasted because we don’t use them in ‘ibaadah and service of Allaah.

6 – Our Love

Our emotional love is misdirected, not towards Allaah, but towards something/someone else.

7 – Our Time

Wasted, not used properly, to compensate for that which has passed, by doing what is righteous to make up for past deeds.

8 – Our Intellect

Wasted on things that are not beneficial, that are detremental to society and the individual, not in contemplation or reflection.

9 – Our Service

Wasted in service of someone who will not bring us closer to Allaah, or benefit in dunyaa.

10 – Our Dhikr

Wasted, because it does not effect us or our hearts.

True Love

Ibn al-Qayyim (rahimahullaah) says:

And the cure for this deadly illness (i.e. love before marriage) is for the person that is afflicted to realize that this love is only due to his/her own delusions and ignorance. So upon such a person is to first and foremost strengthen their Tawheed and reliance upon Allaah, and secondly to increase in worship and busy themselves with it, so much so that they do not have any spare time letting their minds wander and think about their beloved.

And they should call upon Allaah to protect them and save them from this evil, just as Prophet Yoosuf (`alayhi ssalaam) called upon Allaah and he was saved. And they should do as he did, be as he was, in terms of ikhlaas (sincerity) and remembering Allaah in abundance. This is because if the heart is filled with ikhlaas for the sake of Allaah, there will be no space left for any unlawful love to be present, rather this only happens to a heart that is empty and has no ikhlaas whatsoever.

And let such people remind themselves that whatever Allaah has decreed for them is only for their own best interests, and when Allaah commands something it is never to cause harm or misery to His slaves.

And let them also remind themselves that their unlawful love does not benefit them, neither in this world or the Hereafter! As for this world then they will be so preoccupied with their love that it will cripple them and will cause them to live in a fantasy world. And as for the hereafter, then it will cause them to be preoccupied with the love of the creation instead of love for the Creator. These people need to be reminded that the one who is emerged in something will never see its ill effects, neither will the person who has never experienced such things. The only people who will be able to relate to them are those who have experienced the same thing, but have been saved.

Such people can look back and realize how evil it is.

~ad-Daa`wa ad-Dawaa, p300
Ibn al-Qayyim:
The only thing that can come close to the ink of scholars is the blood of martyrs!
Imaam Sufyaan ath-Thawree said, "The scholars are like rain, wherever they fall, they benefit." (Jam'ee Bayaanul 'Ilm wa Fadlihee 1/56)

Importance of knowledge

'Abdullaah Ibn 'Amr رضي الله عنه narrated that the Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم said:

"Verily, Allaah does not seize knowledge by force, instead He takes knowledge by the death of the scholars, until there remains no scholar. The people will take ignorant leaders, who will be asked, and will be asked, and who will rule without knowledge. They are misguided and they will misguide others."

'descendants of Adam...'

HADITH OF THE DAY: “Anas related that Rasulullah, salla Allahu alayhi wasalam, said: All the descendants of Adam are sinners, but the best of sinners are those who repent most.” [Ibn Majah, Tirmidhi]

....do you know any equal to Him?"

We believe in His oneness in all of this, that is, He has no associate in His divinity, His God ship, His names, or His attributes. Allah says in the Qur'an: "He is the Lord of the heavens and the Earth and all that is in between them, so worship Him and be patient in His worship; do you know any equal to Him?" (19:65).

'My Rubb, I remember.'

HADITH OF THE DAY: “Ibn `Umar (radiyAllahu anhu) reported: I heard Messenger of Allah sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam saying, “A believer will be brought close to his Rubb on the Day of Resurrection and enveloping him in His Mercy, He subhanahu wa taala will make him confess his sins by saying: `Do you remember (doing) this sin and this sin?’ He will reply: `My Rubb, I remember.’ Then He subhanahu wa taala will say: `I covered it up for you in the life of world, and I forgive it for you today.’ Then the record of his good deeds will be handed to him” [Bukhari, Muslim]

Ruling regarding the one who becomes angry when an affliction befalls him‏

Posted: May 19th, 2003

Author: Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih al-'Uthaymeen (Raheemahullaah)
Source: Fataawa Arkaan al-Islaam - Fataawaa 64, page 126

Question: What is the ruling regarding the one who becomes angry when an affliction befalls him?

Answer: People are upon 4 levels regarding the circumstances of affliction:

The First Level

Being angry, and this is in various ways:

The first type: That the anger is by the heart as if he is angry at his Lord. So he becomes angry with what Allaah has decreed for him, and this (level) is haraam. And it is possible that this could lead to kufr (disbelief). Allaah said:

“And among mankind is he who worships Allaah as it were, upon the very edge (i.e. in doubt); if good befalls him, he is content therewith; but if a trial befalls him, he turns back on his face (i.e. reverts back to disbelief after embracing Islaam). He loses both this world and the Hereafter.” – Al-Hajj (22):11

The second type: That the anger is by the tongue like making du'aa for destruction or ruin and what is similar to that, and this is haraam.

The third type: That the anger is by the limbs like slapping the cheeks, ripping the clothes, pulling out hair and similar to that, and all of this is haraam in contradiction to patience which is waajib (obligatory).

The Second Level:

Being patient, just as the poet said:

“Patience is like its name – bitter in taste, yet its outcomes are sweeter than honey.”

So the person sees this thing (the affliction) weighs very heavy upon him, yet he bears it although he dislikes that it happened. Rather, his eemaan bears it and restrains him from being angry. So the time of affliction and the time of no affliction is not the same to him, and this (level) is waajib, because Allaah commanded the people to be patient, saying:

“…and be patient. Surely, Allaah is with those who are As-Saabireen (the patient ones, etc.).” – Al-Anfaal (8):46

The Third Level:

Being pleased with the affliction in that the person is pleased with the affliction and whether it happened or not, it is the same to him so he it is not difficult upon him. He does not bear it as if it is something weighing heavy on him, and this (level) is mustahabb (preferred – between haraam and waajib) and it is not waajib according to the most correct opinion. The difference between this level and the one before it is apparent because the affliction happening or not happening is the same due to the pleasure of the one on this level. As for the level before it, the affliction is hard upon him, yet he remains patient over it.

The Fourth Level:

Thanking/being grateful and this is the highest level. This is that the person thanks Allaah for the affliction which has struck him in that he knows that this affliction is an expiation for his sins and perhaps a cause for an increase in his good deeds. The Prophet (Salallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said,

“There is no affliction which strikes the Muslim except that Allaah expiates with it (sins), even with a thorn that may poke him.” (Recorded by Bukhaari and Muslim)
“Patience is like its name – bitter in taste, yet its outcomes are sweeter than honey.”

Truthful Dreams

The truthfulness of the dream is related to the sincerity of the dreamer. Those who have the most truthful dreams are those who are the most truthful in speech. (Muslim, 4200)

Advices to Female Students of knowledge

Umm Yasir Al Faranseeyah asked Shaikh Muqbil : Is it possible for you Oh Shaikh to give us a program and levels that a sister can use in her house until she could come to a high level of knowledge?

Answer: Yes, what we advice is that she takes knowledge step by step by reading simple books: for verily they help in understanding the big books, and examples of this are Riyaad Us Saaliheen and also Fath Ul Majeed the explanation of Kitaab Ut Tawheed, and Buluugh Ul Maraam by Haafidh Ibn Hajar , and this is if she can understand this. And if she doesn’t understand these then there is a small book that I know from our virtuous brother Shaikh Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahhab Al Yamani Al Wassabi and its name is the beneficial statements from the evidences of Tawheed. And it is a very easy book. And if she is at a higher level than these books that we have mentioned then it is possible that she reads from the Sunnah of Ibn Abee ‘Aasim and the Sunnah of Muhammad Ibn Nasr Al Marwazi and As Sunnah by Abdillah Ibn Ahmad. The most important thing is that she manages her time and doesn’t overwork herself with many classes… .

Also we advise that she keeps in contact with the virtuous scholars if there are any problems, and also to write the benefits (of what she learns). And Allah is the helper. And if it is easy for a woman and her husband to travel to the institutes of knowledge in Yemen we advise them to do so Allah is the helper.

Many thoughts going through my mind but alhamdulilah I'm just trying to stay patient and avoid listening to the shaytaan because when your at the most vulnerable moment, he'll try to get you. Authobillahi minal shaytaan al rageem ! None the less gaining wisdom from different events that take place in life is also a hidden blessing almost often taken for granted, I'm trying to learn for experiences to better myself. I truly ask Allah to increase me in patience, continue to guide me on the straight path and forgive my sins! Ameen. C'est la vie...It's life, we'll all have to go through tests and trials but the outcome of how we react to the matter is what truly tests our faith. May Allah increase us in wisdom and patience! Ameen. I've always been an independent person walhamdulilah and I feel that I need to return to when I rarely seen anyone and really just focused on my goals and plans that I have in the future. Sure, friends will always be there and I thank Allah for them but sometimes they come as tests to us, we must always renew our intentions ever so often and remember that this life is meaning less, we will all return back to Allah. Just at that point in my life where I'm growing and discovering what type of person I want to be and where I'd like to go in life in'sha'Allah. May Allah grant us all success in everything we try to gain from this dunya and make our final abode heaven, a place of eternal bliss<3

May Allah have mercy upon Mu'aadh and write for him as a Shaheed, Aameen.

The Purpose of Our Lives

Have we forgotten the purpose of our lives?

Sometimes we think we exist just to have a good time.

So we indulge in satisfying our lusts and desires,

Even if means becoming hypocrites, thieves and liars

We forget the sole reason Allah created our souls.

It is to worship Him alone, until they bury our bones

Never faltering, never shifting, away from our Iman,

Remaining true to Allah as best as we can.

But beyond this belief in our hearts come our actions

Balancing obedience to Allah and appeasing satisfactions

What is a Muslim who forgets the commands of His religion?

One who is blinded by Dunya, and lost all vision?

Have we forgotten that we have one of two destinations?

Hell is for the transgressors, and Jannah is for the patient.

In this test we can enjoy ourselves, and be pleased with our lives,

But the reason we live is to worship Allah, and this will not change until we die.

In the sorrow and regret of the most horrific of days,

We’d wish to return to Dunya, only to change our ways.

A Day on which we’d beg Allah on our hands and our knees,

Return us to this Dunya! So we can salvage our Deeds!

But Nay!

You’ve had your chances and received your warnings!

But remember when you slept during the early mornings?!

When you neglected Fajr, and didn’t keep up with your Salah?

You were cheap and you were greedy, and didn’t pay your Zakah!

You indulged in the obsession of this Dunya with the sinners,

And prevented your own self the company of the winners.

Who might they be, if you ask as you listen?

The winners are those who answered their Lord in submission.

They obeyed Allah and realized life’s mission:

To submit to the One who created you from clay,

and to fear the most horrifying, detrimental of days

These winners are the ones who enjoined in the worship of their Lord:

They kept their covenant with Allah, not breaking one word.

Prayer by prayer, Day by Day,

Holding firmly to the Qur’an, while following the Prophet’s way.

The best of the Muslims receive Jannah’s delight.

Because they fasted through the day and prayed Tahajjud through the night.

They fulfilled the necessary obligations and did more,

They kept their loyalty to the One who they lived and died for.

Let us all reflect, as to how we may be viewed by the Sublime.

Are we of the hypocrites who don’t even pray on time?

Of the losers who worship every nickel and dime?

Of the animals who don’t treat fellow Muslims with respect?

Of the enemies of Allah whose commands we neglect?

Are we the sinners whose own lives we’ll regret?

Or have we devoted ourselves to pursuing Paradise?

Of the Muslims whose actions are intelligent and wise?

Of the noble who tell only truth with no lies?

Of the pious who pray every prayer on time?

Let us Never forget our aim for Paradise,

We must worship Allah, through all of the sacrifice.

For those who fall short, Jahannam is their destination.

Allah’s Judgement is most Supreme, and His is the best of legislation.

So Ya Allah! We beg of you to guide us the straight path!

And we seek refuge with Your mercy from the torment of Your wrath!

Ya RABB! Grant us patience and let us die in submission!

Let us realize and succeed in the struggles of life’s mission!

We are for You and to You we return,

So grant us refuge from Hellfire’s burn!

Grant us the peak of Jannah with the Prophets, martyrs and righteous,

For none exceeds You in Your generocity, O Lord of Kindness!

And send Your peace and blessings upon he who You’ve sent to guide us,

To make us of the pious, and bring us out of the blindness

All praise is due to You, Lord of the Heavens, the Earth, and all that’s between.

Master of the Universe, All-Knower of the Unseen.

Follow the way of the Salaf

benefit to prove that we should follow the way of the Salaf:

"And the first forerunners [in the faith] among the Muhajireen and the Ansar and those who followed them with good conduct - Allah is pleased with them and they are pleased with Him, and He has prepared for them gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever. That is the great attainment."

Oh November, how I adore you! It has been one of the busiest months yet for me with all my school papers piling up and handling working at the same time but honestly I have nothing to complain about alhamdulilah. Do you ever have that realization moment when you realize your problems aren't REAL problems yet in fact actual blessings! SubhanAllah. How selfish are we really? or better question how grateful are we to the one who has given us all that we have? Sighh sometimes I just sit and think about the greater problems people face in their lives and compare to mine, I have such small tiny problems. Often times I try not to blow them up but even I am human! Thank Allah that we are able to repent before we can die, Allah truly is a forgiving lord -Al-Rahman Al-Raheem! In every situation there are different angles to look at it from, we should always take the grateful outlook on things. I believe we'd live more happier lives that are enriched with being content with anything and everything that ever happens to us in this life; acceptance. There is no time for rest in this life while our bed is made clear for the hereafter! Those who believed (in the Oneness of Allâh - Islâmic Monotheism), and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allâh, Verily, in the remembrance of Allâh do hearts find rest! Ar-Rad [13:28]  May Allah increase us in remembrance of him & increase us with patience! Ameen<3 I find that throughout my day whether at school or at work there are endless, countless of things that I see as blessings and to end my day complaining is just not an option. Yes we get tired and fed up at times but lets not lose sight of our goals and what we should prepare for in the hereafter. If we have problems with staying grateful or searching for the blessings Allah has bestowed on us then let us turn back to the verses of Allah. Similarly (to complete My blessings on you) We have sent among you a Messenger (Muhammad SAW) of your own, reciting to you Our Verses (the Qur'ân) and purifying you, and teaching you the Book (the Qur'ân) and the Hikmah (i.e. Sunnah, Islâmic laws and Fiqh - jurisprudence), and teaching you that which you used not to know.Al-Baqara [2:151]   Lesson in every verse, Alhamdulilah for Islam

Three Points about Joking

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Merciful…

Let us be reminded that while light-hearted, honest joking from time to time is permissible, there are indeed dangers in joking that many of us may not think about and therefore fall into, so let us be warned about them:

1) JOKES INVOLVING LIES
Indeed the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhe wa sallam) warned us severely against using lies in our joking, with his statement:
ويل للذي يحدث بالحديث ليضحك به القوم فيكذب، ويل له، ويل له
“Woe to the one who lies to make people laugh, WOE TO HIM, WOE TO HIM!”
This is an authenitc hadeeth found in Sunan Abee Daawood (#4990), At-Tirmithee (#2315), and others.  At-Tirmithee called the hadeeth hasan, and Al-Albaanee agreed.

Someone may say, “Well, its obvious this joke is full of lies, but I’m not the one who made it up, I’m just passing it on.”

The reply: The hadeeth of the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhe wa sallam) that Imaam Muslim brings in the introduction to his Saheeh could apply here:

كفى بالمرء كذبًا أن يحدث بكل ما سمع
“It is sufficient for a man to be considered a liar when he relays everything he hears.”
Lies in general are impermissible, in joking or outside of joking.  There are three exceptions to the general prohibition of lying in Islaam:
  • Between spouses
  • To correct a broken relationship
  • In estbalished military operations (jihad) under a Muslim government
Even in these three cases it must only be used to bring about a benefit.
The point is that none of the scholars exempted joking as a permissible form of lying.

2) EXCESSIVE JOKING

The Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhe wa sallam) said:

لا تكثروا الضحك، فإن كثرة الضحك تميت القلب
“Don’t laugh too much! For verily, excessive laughter kills the heart!”
This is an authentic hadeeth found in Sunan Ibn Maajah (#4193).  Refer to Silsilat al-Ahaadeeth as-Saheehah (#506).

And he (sallallaahu ‘alayhe wa sallam) also said:

والله لو تعلمون ما أعلم لضحكتم قليلا ولبكيتم كثيرا
“I swear by the One in whose hand is my soul, if you saw what I have seen, you would laugh a little, and cry a lot.” [Al-Bukhaaree & Muslim]

So the Muslim who recognizes his priorities in life does not get caught up in excessive joking, for example, joke books or comedy programs on TV or radio, since these things will only weaken his heart, keep it away from Allaah’s remembrance, or even kill it, and Allaah’s refuge is sought.

3) INSULTING PEOPLE IN JEST (Satire, Sarcasm, Roasting, etc.)

The disbelievers have a custom of intentionally insulting a person to honor him (?!), they call it a “roast.” They gather the best comedians together to humiliate their “honoree” on his 50th birthday, or his retirement party, or other big occasion. And from their customs as well is to jokingly insult a friend, out of love or respect (?!), as you may have seen.

They might say, “This is my friend, Fulaan, the fat pig,” and they all laugh, or, “My wife, the old ball and chain…” or other derogatory terms that are actually words of insult in their origin. They only spark hatred and do not achieve any goodness, so the Muslim must be the furthest away from this kind of action. The Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhe wa sallam) said:

سباب المسلم فسوق، وقتاله كفر
“Insulting a Muslim is fusooq (sinful disobedience), and fighting him is kufr (ingratitude, a lesser kind of disbelief).” [Al-Bukhaaree and Muslim]

Or perhaps they may say these things without that person’s presence, then it is even worse. It falls into eating your brother’s dead flesh, the dreadful sin of backbiting.

And if someone said: “But it is understood by everyone to be good, honest fun…!”
The reply: Let us be reminded of Allaah’s Verse:

الخبيثات للخبيثين والخبيثون للخبيثات والطيبات للطيبين والطيبون للطيبات
( And bad things (filthy women, bad words, etc.) are for bad people, and bad people are for bad things.  Good things (upright women, kind words, etc.) are for good people, and good people are for good things. ) [Al-Qur'aan 24:26]

And the speech of His noble Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alayhe wa sallam):
من كان يؤمن بالله واليوم الآخر فليقل خيرا أو ليصمت

“Whoever believes in Allaah and the Last Day must speak with goodness or remain silent.”
[Al-Bukhaaree and Muslim]

With these brief and simple points, let an honest Muslim open his heart to a beautiful reminder about how his Religion gives him personal honor and upright character, raising him above the silly and shameful behavior of the disbelievers.

And Allaah knows best.

Wise Words

Narrated by Abu Dharr, the Prophet, sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, said:

"When you make some soup, increase its water and keep your neighbours in mind."

[Muslim reported the two Hadeeth]

Note: The ruling is to be treated as compulsory if the neighbour is poor. But if one's neighbour is rich, then this ruling is to be treated as a matter of preference. The Prophet, sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, stated; "Whenever Gabriel came to me, he persistently kept emphasizing on the right's of one's neighbour - to such an extent that it led me into thinking perhaps a neighbour may be declared as the inheritor of one's legacy."

Proofs from the Qur’aan Regarding Ruboobiyyah, Uloohiyyah, and Asmaa wa Sifaat

Posted: 16 Nov 2011 12:41 PM PST
Proofs From the Qur`aan
The proofs for the above are abundant, we shall mention some prominent ones. First, the very first chapter of the Qur`aan.
All the praises and thanks be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds (mankind, jinns and all that exists). The Most Beneficent (full of mercy), the Merciful (to His servants). The Only Owner (and the Only Ruling Judge) of the Day of Recompense. You (Alone) we worship, and You (Alone) we ask for help (for each and everything)
In this verse we see affirmation of Allaah’s Ruboobiyyah, some of His Names, such as ar-Rahmaan, ar-Raheem, al-Maalik (the Owner), and a statement of Tawhid stating that He alone is worshipped and sought for aid.
Then we have the very last chapter of the Qur`aan:
 قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ. مَلِكِ النَّاسِ. إِلَهِ النَّاسِ
Say: “I seek refuge with (Allaah) the Lord of mankind. The King of mankind. The Ilaah (deity) of mankind…” (An-Naas 114:3)
Here we have the Ruboobiyyah of Allaah, then a name al-Malik (the King) mentioned in another verse too, and then Uloohiyyah (the deity), and this is an indication of what constitutes Tawhid, of singling Him out as the Lord, as the only deity worthy of worship and in the Beautiful Names (and Lofty Attributes).
So we have the very first chapter, and the very last chapter incorporating the comprehensive Tawhid that is explained in detail in what is between them both of the rest of the Qur`aan.
Then there is the saying of Allaah, the Most High:
رَبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا فَاعْبُدْهُ وَاصْطَبِرْ لِعِبَادَتِهِ هَلْ تَعْلَمُ لَهُ سَمِيًّا
Lord of the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, so worship Him (Alone) and be constant and patient in His worship. Do you know of any who is a namesake to Him (meaning one who deserves the like of His Name)? (Maryam 19:65)
So here we see Tawhid mentioned comprehensively, affirmation that He is the Lord of the heavens and the Earth (Ruboobiyyah), the command to worship Him alone and to be patient and steadfast upon that (Uloohiyyah), and the negation of there being any namesake for Him (His uniqueness in His Names and Attributes), and a namesake means one that deserves to have the same name (on account of having the same qualities). So again, we have the mention of Tawhid comprehensively. And then this is found often in the Qur`aan, and perhaps this is sufficient for our purposes here.

They are deaf, dumb, and blind . . .

"Their likeness is as the likeness of one who kindled a fire; then, when it lighted all around him, Allah took away their light and left them in darkness. (So) they could not see. They are deaf, dumb, and blind, so they return not (to the Right Path). Or like a rainstorm from the sky, wherein is darkness, thunder, and lightning. They thrust their fingers in their ears to keep out the stunning thunderclap for fear of death. But Allah ever encompasses the disbelievers (i.e. Allah will gather them all together). The lightning almost snatches away their sight, whenever it flashes for them, they walk therein, and when darkness covers them, they stand still. And if Allah willed, He could have taken away their hearing and their sight. Certainly, Allah has power over all things."

General Question & Answer Session
by
Shaykh Saalih as-Suhaymee حفظه الله
on March 11th, 2006
Introduction

The Shaykh حفظه الله is a professor at the Islaamic University in Madeenah and a teacher at Masjid an-Nabawee (Prophet’s Masjid). He is a well-known scholar from Madeenah and studied under the aimmah of our time. From amongst his teachers are Shaykh Abdul Azeez ibn Baaz, Shaykh Muhammad ibn Salih al-Uthaymeen and Shaykh Muhammad Naasiruddeen al-Albaanee رحمهم الله.

The Shaykh began with the greeting of Salaam and then mentioned khutbatul-haajah, praised Allaah سبحانه و تعالى and sent the salaat and salaam upon our Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم, his family and all his Companions.

The Shaykh حفظه الله then proceeded by saying: “Dear brothers I will give a talk for 3 minutes then I will leave the floor open for questions inshaa Allaah.”

Having Taqwah of Allaah سبحانه و تعالى

My first advice to you all is the advice of fearing Allaah سبحانه و تعالى i.e. having taqwa of Allaah سبحانه و تعالى both in secret and in the open, in times of hardship and ease, and in all your conditions.

Taqwa of Allaah, in summary means that one does whatever he is commanded to do, and he stays away from everything which he is prohibited from, in the areas of one’s belief (Aqeedah) and the area of one’s worship to Allaah سبحانه و تعالى (Eebaadah) and in his methodology and his approach to practically manifesting and establishing Islaam (Ahkaam, Aadaab, Aqlaaq and Manhaj). In all of this he must have taqwa of Allaah. Taqwah of Allaah سبحانه و تعالى is the reason for every success in this life and the Hereafter as Allaah سبحانه و تعالى says:
وَمَن يَتَّقِ اللَّهَ يَجْعَل لَّهُ مَخْرَجاً {2} وَيَرْزُقْهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لا يَحْتَسِبُ
{…And whosoever fears Allâh and keeps his duty to Him, He will make a way for him to get out (from every difficulty).
And He will provide him from (sources) he never could imagine...}
[at-Talaaq 65:2-3]

And also Allaah سبحانه و تعالى says:
وَمَن يَتَّقِ اللَّهَ يَجْعَل لَّهُ مِنْ أَمْرِهِ يُسْراً
{… and whosoever fears Allâh and keeps his duty to Him, He will make his matter easy for him.} [at-Talaaq 65:4]

And:
وَمَن يَتَّقِ اللَّهَ يُكَفِّرْ عَنْهُ سَيِّئَاتِهِ وَيُعْظِمْ لَهُ أَجْراً
{…and whosoever fears Allâh and keeps his duty to Him, He will expiate from him his sins, and will enlarge his reward.} [at-Talaaq 65:5]

Many of the people complain about hardships that they experience but they do not take the path that would make it easy for them to solve their problems – and that is having taqwa of Allaah both in secret and in the open.

It is not possible to attain taqwa of Allaah سبحانه و تعالى without seeking to have knowledge and Fiqh (understanding) in the Deen of Allaah سبحانه و تعالى. Allaah سبحانه و تعالى says in the Qur’aan:
شَهِدَ اللّهُ أَنَّهُ لاَ إِلَـهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ وَالْمَلاَئِكَةُ وَأُوْلُواْ الْعِلْمِ قَآئِمَاً بِالْقِسْطِ لاَ إِلَـهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ
{Allâh bears witness that Lâ ilâha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), and the angels,
and those having knowledge (also give this witness); (He always) maintains His creation in justice.
Lâ ilâha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.}
[Aal-‘Imraan 3:18]

Likewise He سبحانه و تعالى said:
وَاتَّقُواْ اللّهَ وَيُعَلِّمُكُمُ اللّهُ
{… So be afraid of Allâh; and Allâh teaches you…} [al-Baqarah 2:282]

Therefore, the way to achieve taqwa of Allaah سبحانه و تعالى is to have knowledge of this Deen. It is obligatory upon you to know what you have been prevented from i.e. what has been made prohibited for you, so that you may stay away from it and also, to know that which Allaah سبحانه و تعالى loves and is pleased with so that you do it, and that which angers Allaah سبحانه و تعالى, so that you stay away from it. There is no way that this can be manifested except by having knowledge.

In order for the Muslim to achieve the beneficial knowledge and righteous actions then it is upon him to ask those people who have knowledge. They are the ‘Ulema ar-Rabbaaniyeen – those scholars who are known for their ability to cultivate and nurture and who are known for their great knowledge. They are the ones who do not deviate from the straight path. They are the Major Scholars – the ones that Allaah سبحانه و تعالى has commanded us to return to in His statement:
فَاسْأَلُواْ أَهْلَ الذِّكْرِ إِن كُنتُمْ لاَ تَعْلَمُونَ
{…So ask the people of the Reminder if you do not know.} [an-Nahl 16:43, al-Anbiyaa’ 21:7]

Likewise those are the ones that the Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم has commanded us to return our affairs to, as he صلى الله عليه و سلم said in a hadeeth: “Verily knowledge (‘ilm) is not attained except by seeking it, just as having forbearance (hilm) is not achieved except by seeking it.” [1]

Conclusion
I want to conclude my statement by drawing your attention to something that is very important. That is to emphasize the importance of returning back to the Scholars especially regarding fataawa (religious verdicts). We should not be fooled by those people who put themselves forth on the satellite channels etc. and they give fataawa without any knowledge. They give fataawa making permissible (halaal) that which Allaah سبحانه و تعالى made prohibited (haraam) etc. Even though we find that the Sahabaah رضى الله عنهم didn’t like to issue fataawa – rather when someone came to ask them a question they would refer the questioner to another one of the Sahabaah even if they had a difference of opinion concerning some of the Fiqh issues in the Religion. So, what about those people who have no right to be issuing fataawa, and yet they go ahead and make permissible that which Allaah سبحانه و تعالى made prohibited.

Likewise, I would like to draw your attention to another point – to stay away from the differing that you may find amongst some of the people and the differing that you may find amongst some of the Students of Knowledge and even amongst some of the people who are above that level, who have been given knowledge, but they have put some things upon others that are not necessary or appropriate and likewise the other one has done that to the other one. It is not appropriate for us to involve ourselves in this type of differing, rather we should consider this to be fitnah and stay far away from it, and we ask only those questions that concern us and our Religion and we stay away from these types of fitnah. And hopefully Allaah سبحانه و تعالى will reconcile that which has happened between some of the People of Knowledge.

The Shaykh said that with that inshaa Allaah we ask Allaah سبحانه و تعالى for us and for you all, for everyone, beneficial knowledge and righteous actions, and inshaa Allaah we can move on to the questions. The questions should be those that have a purpose behind them and they should be knowledge-based.

The Shaykh said to excuse him for exceeding 3 minutes as the translation was longer than 3 minutes.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

1. Question: In the US, we have a student loan in which the government pays the interest while the student is in school, and after the student finishes school, he will have to pay the principal plus interest. But if the student pays the loan back while in school, he will not have to pay the interest. Is it permissible to sign a contract for this type of loan if the student anticipates that he will pay off the entire amount before he graduates?
Answer: Regarding this issue we want to look at it from a couple angles. The first angle is that we want to distinguish between the one who has accepted Islaam and this is his condition and the one who was already a Muslim when involving himself in this transaction.

As it relates to the one who has accepted Islaam, he is not accountable for these types of transactions in the Sight of Allaah سبحانه و تعالى as the Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم accepted money from the people which they had prior to accepting Islaam. So the money that a person acquired before Islaam then it stays in his possession as he had no knowledge of the Islaamic rulings before he accepted Islaam, and likewise, Islaam erases/demolishes anything that came before it from sins.[2]

Some of the Sahaaba accepted Islaam and they (previously) used to trade in alcohol products, gambling and these types of things and it has not been reported that the Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم told them to give back any of that money or to leave it off. This is except for interest i.e. if he is one that someone owes interest to then he has to give up the right to interest because at this point he has become a Muslim and he cannot accept interest from anyone. The Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم as is mentioned, extinguished the interest of al-Abbas i.e. he could not accept any of the interest owed to him after he accepted Islaam, but it didn’t have anything to do with the interest that was given to him before Islaam.

As for the Muslim, it is not permissible for him to involve himself in the type of transaction mentioned in the question, and that is because in Islaam the end does not justify the means. All transactions that involve interest are not permissible in Islaam. The Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم cursed the one who takes Riba (Interest) and the one who gives Riba and the one who is a witness to Riba…[3] to the end of the hadith. Even if this individual does not have the ability to study because he cannot afford it if he does not get involved in this type of transaction, then this does not make it permissible and he still cannot utilize this type of transaction as the end does not justify the means.

The Ruling Of The Menstruating Woman Touching The Mushaf And Entering The Masjid

Taken from:1 الأجوبة السلفية على ما بقي من الأسئلة التي عرضت على العلامة الوادعي رحمه الله تعالى،
بتاريخ: ليلة السبت 25 رجب 1422 ه‍..دماج-دار الحديث

Shaykh Yahya Al-Hajooree was asked

Question: Is it permissible for a menstruating woman to enter into the Masjid and touch the Mushaf, and please make a mention of the evidences

Answer:1what is correct is that it is permissible for the menstruating woman to enter into the Masjid and to touch the Mushaf, and there are proofs upon that, from them being:1

q-The statement of the prophet may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him and his family: “Oh Aa'isha! Pass me the prayer mat” she replied: “I am menstruating” then he, may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him and his family said: “Your menstruation is not in your hands” (narrated by Muslim 11-298)1

q-The Hadeeth of Aa'isha that when she was Menstruating during Hajj, the prophet may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him and his family said to her: “Do what the pilgrim does except you do not go around the Ka'bah” (narrated by Al-Bukhari 305 and Muslim 120-1211). The menstruating women were still inside the most sublime of all the Masaajid, and that is the Masjid Al-Haraam, without order from him, neither from his (four) caliphs nor from other than them, that they should leave from the Masjid Al-Haraam. Al-Bukhari has made a chapter in his Kitaabis-Salaat (that is inside his Saheeh): [Chapter: The woman sleeping in the Masjid], and he conveyed the Hadeeth of Aa'isha may Allah be pleased with her that she said: “A black woman became Muslim with some of the 'Arabs, and she had a tent or a small room with a low roof inside the Masjid...”(Al-Bukhari 439). The general foundation of the women is that they menstruate, for the prophet may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him and his family said: “This is something that Allah has written upon the daughters of Aadam”(narrated by Al-Bukhari 305 and Muslim 120-1211), and it was not narrated (in that Hadeeth of the black woman) that she left from the masjid during the days of her menstruation, and neither within it is a clarification that she passed her menopause.1

Q-And(also) from the evidences that the menstruating Muslimah is not impure, is the Hadeeth of Abu Hurayrah “Glorified be Allah, the believer does not become impure” (reported by Al-Bukhari 383 and Muslim 371), then if she is (considered to be) pure; except that which is observed from the private part, then there is no justification for expelling her from the Masjid, and neither to prevent her from reading the Qur'an.1

Q-And from them (i.e. the evidences) is the Hadeeth of Umm Ateyyah, and within it:(regarding the menstruating women attending the 'Eid prayer) “let them witness the good and the supplication of the Muslims”. The good is general and the supplication of the Muslims is general, from it is the recitation ofthe Qur'an and other than it, then he said “and that they should keep away from the Musalla (prayer place) of the people” (Al-Bukhari 324 and Muslim 890), with this (some of the scholars) use as a proof that the menstruating woman does not enter the Masjid. Then this conclusion must be looked into, for whatis known is that the Musalla of 'Eid does not take the same ruling as the Masjid concerning this (issue) or other than it. Rather the intention (behind ordering the menstruating women to stay away) was preventing free mixing with the men, and that is taken from the Hadeeth of Ibn Abbaas that the prophet may the peace and blessings ofAllah be upon him and his family, conducted a sermon for the men then he went and conducted a sermon for the women, which indicates towards the fact that they are not equal in their merit and they are different. The like of this was mentioned by An-Nawawee.1

Likewise the evidences pertaining to the recitation of the one who is sexually impure is in the same chapter so we shall mention them together: “The prophet may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him and his family, used to make Dhikr (verbal remembrance) of Allah at every opportunity” from the Hadeeth of Aa'isha that comes in the Saheeh (i.e. Al-Bukhari).1

Asfor the Hadeeth of 'Amr Bin Hazm “Nobody may touch the Qur'an except he who is pure” then the meaning of [pure] here is: that he is not a Mushrik (polytheist), because the Muslim does not become impure, as Allah The Most High says:
إِنَّماالمُشْرِكُونَ نَجَسٌ

Verily,the Mushrikûn are Najasun (impure)
At-Tawbah28
So then the point behind these evidences: the permissibility for the menstruating woman and the one who is sexually impure to enter the Masjid, and their touching and recitation of the Qur'an. It is affirmed that the prophet may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him and his family, came to Faatimah and said: “where is your cousin? (i.e. 'Ali)” so she replied: “he is angry with me” so then the prophet may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him and his family went and found him sleeping, and there was soil upon him so (the prophet) said: “Rise, Oh father of the soil” and what is well known is that the sleeping one is exposed to wet dreams and sexual impurity. And the Ashaabus-Suffah [1] used to sleep in the Suffah (shaded area) in the vicinity of the Masjid.1
And it is affirmed that the prophet may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him and his family said: “He who takes residence in the Masjid, Allah will treat him hospitably just as the family of the absent one are hospitable to him when he arrives” (Narrated by Ibn Maajah 652, Ahmed 2/328 and in Saheeh Musnad of Shaykh Muqbil 1253) the Hadeeth has some criticism however we have mentioned it as part of the evidence.1

So then our point behind this: The permissibility for the menstruating woman and the one who is sexually impure to enter into the Masjid, and the permissibility of them touching the Mushaf, and that which comes in the Hadeeth of 'Amr Bin Hazm then it has been spoken about concerning its chains of narration, that none of them are free from weakness according to what we know of, however Ibn Al-Qayyim said: “The Ummah is in agreement with its acceptance” and it has already proceeded that the ruling (extracted from the Hadeeth) is attributable upon the Mushrik (polytheist) and not upon the menstruating and the one who is sexually impure from amongst the Muslims.1

As for the story of Ibn Rawaahah (taken from Sunnan Ad-Daaraqutnee 1/120 and Al-Bayhaaqee in Khilaafiyaat 322 and is also brought forward by Ibn Abee Dunyaa in his Al-Ishraaf 239) upon the requirement of being unblemished (from menstruation and the like) just as we have clarified in “Al-Asilat Ush-Shi'riyyah Ul-Hadeetheeyyah”- that his wife said to him “You have had intercourse with your slavegirl” and he denied that, so she said to him “if you have not had intercourse with her then recite a verse (from the Qur'an)” [2]so he replied:1
q“I testified that the promise of Allah is the truth
and that the fire is a dwelling place for the disbelievers

and that the throne is floating above the water
and above the throne is the Lord of all that exists
And stern Angels carry it
Angels that belong to the God and they have marks (of distinction)”1
So she said: “I believe in Allah and declare my eye to be lying”.This story has clear criticism concerning the source and its mention has preceded (in Al-Asilat Ush-Shi'riyyah Ul-Hadeetheeyyah), and as for the requirement of being unblemished (by menstruation etc.) then this is from the Ijtihaad of Abdullah Bin Rawaahah and is not incumbent.1

And (he is) from those that say that the sexually impure one can not recite the Qur'an, and he who opposes him has with him an evident proof, and the proof takes precedence over the Ijtihaad. And from the things that those that say its impermissible for the menstruating woman and the sexually impure one to enter the Masjid rely upon is the Hadeeth of Aa'isha may Allah be pleased with her that the prophet may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him and his family said:“I do not permit the Masjid for the menstruating woman, nor the sexually impure one” (narrated by Abu Dawood, Ibn Maajah, and Al-Bayhaaqee 2/443) then its dispute revolves around Jasrah Bint Dajaajah, and she is unknown and Al-Bukhari said: “she has with her odd things (i.e. in her narrations)” 1

I say (i.e. Shaykh Yahya): and from her 'odd things' is this Hadeeth which opposes many of the fundamental principles (of Fiqh), to the extent that An-Nawawee said: "It (i.e. the Hadeeth) is weak with agreement of the people of understanding".1
Footnotes
q[1]Ashaabus-Suffah: those people that made Hijrah from Makkah to Madinah who were poor and found no place to reside – explanation taken froman answer by Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen within the Noor 'Ala Ad-Darb series and can be found here http://www.ibnothaimeen.com/all/noor/article_7721.shtml

q[2]meaning, if you have not had intercourse then you must be ritually pure and not sexually impure, so this narration indicates that he used to hold the opinion that it was not permissible for him to recite whilst in the state of sexual impurity, that is why she asked him to recite a verse from the Qur'an.

Virtues of the Day of Arafaah

What are the Virtues of the Day of Arafaah ?

Praise be to Allaah.

1.                     It is the day on which the religion was perfected and Allaah’s Favour was completed.
In Al-Saheehayn it was reported from ‘Umar ibn al-Khattaab (may Allaah be pleased with him) that a Jewish man said to him, “O Ameer al-Mu’mineen, there is an aayah in your Book which you recite; if it had come to us Jews, we would have taken that day as an ‘Eid (festival).” ‘Umar said, “Which aayah?” He said: “This day I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion.” [al-Maa’idah 5:3 – interpretation of the meaning]. ‘Umar said, “We know on which day and in which place that was revealed to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). It was when he was standing in ‘Arafaah on a Friday.”

2.                     It is a day of Eid for the people who are in that place.
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Yawm ‘Arafaah (the day of ‘Arafaah), Yawm al-Nahr (the Day of Sacrifice) and Ayyaam al-Tashreeq (the 3 days following Yawm al-Nahr) are Eid (festival) for us, the people of Islam. These are days of eating and drinking.” This was narrated by the authors of al-Sunan. It was reported that ‘Umar ibn al-Khattaab said: “It – i.e., the aayah ‘This day I have perfected…’ was revealed on a Friday, the Day of ‘Arafaah, both of which – praise be to Allaah – are Eids for us.”

3.                     It is a day by which Allaah swore an oath.
The Almighty cannot swear by anything except that which is mighty. Yawm ‘Arafaah is the “witnessed day” mentioned in the aayah (interpretation of the meaning):

“By the witnessing day [Friday] and by the witnessed day [the Day of ‘Arafaah].” [al-Burooj 85:3].
It was reported from Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The promised day is the Day of Resurrection, the witnessed day is the Day of ‘Arafaah, and the witnessing day is Friday.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi and classed as saheeh by al-Albaani.

It is the “odd” [i.e., odd-numbered, Witr] by which Allaah swore in the aayah (interpretation of the meaning):

“And by the even and the odd” [al-Fajr 89:3]. Ibn ‘Abbaas said: “The even is the Day of al-Adhaa [i.e., 10th Dhoo’l-Hijjah] and the odd is the Day of ‘Arafaah [i.e., 9th Dhoo’l-Hijjah] This is also the view of ‘Ikrimah and al-Dahhaak.

4.                     Fasting on this day is an expiation for two years.
It was reported from Abu Qutaadah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was asked about fasting on the Day of ‘Arafaah. He said, “It expiates for the sins of the previous year and of the coming year.” Narrated by Muslim.
This (fasting) is mustahabb for those who are not on Hajj. In the case of the one who is on Hajj, it is not Sunnah for him to fast on the Day of ‘Arafaah, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) did not fast on this day in ‘Arafaah. It was narrated that he forbade fasting on the Day of ‘Arafaah in ‘Arafaah.

5.                     It is the day on which Allaah took the covenant from the progeny of Adam.
It was reported that Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allaah took the covenant from the loins of Adam in Na’maan, i.e., ‘Arafaah. He brought forth from his loins all his offspring and spread them before Him, then He addressed them, and said: ‘Am I not your Lord? They said, ‘Yes, we testify,’ let you should say on the Day of Resurrection: ‘Verily, we have been unaware of this.’ Or lest you should say: ‘It was only our fathers aforetime who took others as partners in worship along with Allaah, and we were (merely their) descendents after them; will You then destroy us because of the deeds of men who practised Al-Baatil (i.e., ploytheism and committing crimes and sins, invoking and worshipping others besides Allaah)?’ [al-A’raaf 7:172-173 – interpretation of the meaning].” Narrated by Ahmad and classed as saheeh by al-Albaani. And there is no greater day than this and no greater covenant than this.

6.                     It is the day of forgiveness of sins, freedom from the Fire and pride in the people who are there:
In Saheeh Muslim it was narrated from ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There is no day on which Allaah frees more people from the Fire than the Day of ‘Arafaah. He comes close and expresses His pride to the angels, saying, ‘What do these people want?’”

It was reported from Ibn ‘Umar that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allaah expresses His pride to His angels at the time of ‘Ishaa’ on the Day of ‘Arafaah, about the people of ‘Arafaah. He says, ‘Look at My slaves who have come unkempt and dusty.’” Narrated by Ahmad and classed as saheeh by al-Albaani.

 And Allaah knows best.
