Even an ayah...

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Convey from me, even an aayah.” (Reported by al-Bukhaari).

Ibn Hajar (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: He said in the hadeeth, “even an aayah”, meaning one aayah, as if he was saying that every listener should hasten to convey whatever aayaat he heard, even if it is only a few..

Problems caused by wife’s illness

My brother married a woman who suffers from retinal atrophy, and he did not know anything about her sickness until two months ago. All he knew was that her vision was weak, and he got married to her. Now he is wondering whether he should separate from her because he feels that she will not be able to raise his children properly if she has children.
He is always arguing with her mother because she speaks badly to him and he thinks that she bewitched him to make him marry her daughter. Now he cannot control his anger most of the time and he beats his wife, and he insults her in horrible terms. I hope you can suggest what is best for them.

Praise be to Allaah.

What you have mentioned about her suffering from retinal atrophy is not one of the faults which the fuqaha’ have stated give the husband the choice of annulling the marriage. But some scholars, such as Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah, and Ibn al-Qayyim – and Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen who regarded it as being the correct view – narrated that every fault which puts the other spouse off, so that the purposes of marriage, namely compassion and love, cannot be achieved, mean that the spouse has the choice of annulling the marriage. (Zaad al-Ma’aad, 5/163)

Based on this, the choice of annulment is given in every case where there is a fault that affects the purposes of marriage, namely love, intimacy, bearing children, etc.

But your brother came to know of this fault after that, and he did things which indicate that he accepted that, namely continuing to be intimate with her and not hastening to annul the marriage. According to the fuqaha’ this indicates that he accepts it, and that he does not have the right to annul the marriage.

But as you know, divorce is the man’s right and he may divorce his wife if he thinks that he cannot live a good life with her and that he cannot feel love for her and feel at ease with her, which is the basis of marriage.

What we advise in such situations is to be patient with this wife and try to solve the problem. If her mother is the main reason for the problems, then it is better to keep a distance from her and to live in separate accommodation. If your brother lives in the same house as her or nearby, then it is sufficient to keep in touch by phone and pay brief visits, etc. If the wife’s bad attitude is the reason for the problem, then your brother should check himself and how he treats his wife, for the way he treats her, beating her and calling her names, may be the reason for her bad attitude. He should seek the help of people who have experience in dealing with such problems, and try different ways of finding a solution to each problem.

Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“If you dislike them, it may be that you dislike a thing and Allaah brings through it a great deal of good”
[al-Nisa’ 4:19]

If it is too much for him and he finds that there is no way to solve the problem or to live peacefully with his wife, then there is no sin in divorcing her; in this case she is entitled to the mahr because the marriage has been consummated. And Allaah knows best.

Beautiful Women that wanted to get married

Beautiful Women that wanted to get married

There was this beautiful woman, who wanted to get married, but she wanted a very pious husband, so she said that she’ll marry the man who recites the whole Quran every single day, fasts for the whole year and stays awake and worships Allah all throughout the night.

She was a very beautiful woman, and a lot of suitors wanted to marry her, but they knew they couldn’t fulfil the conditions she set. Until this one man stepped forward and said he could fulfil them. So the Imam got both of them married.

After the first night of the marriage, the wife sees that the husband doesn’t recite the whole of the Quran, nor does he fast, nor does he stay awake in the worship of Allah, she decided to let it roll on for a few weeks to see if there were any changes, there weren’t, so she filed a complaint and asked for a divorce.

They are both taken in front of the judge, and the judge asked, ‘What were the conditions of the marriage?’ the man replied ‘They were for me to recite the whole Quran daily, keep fast for the whole year and to worship Allah all throughout the night.’
The Judge asked, ‘ did you fulfil them? The man calmly answered, ‘…yes.’

The judge answers, ‘you lie, your wife has said that you don’t, that’s why she’s asking for a divorce’.

But the man insisted that he had fulfilled the conditions, so the judge asked, ‘did you recite the full Quran everyday?’ The man answered yes. The Judge, baffled asked, ‘how? How can you do that?’ The man coolly answered, ‘I recite Surah Ikhlas three times a day and according to Prophet Muhammad (saw), reciting Surah Ikhlas three times is equivalent to reciting the whole Quran.’ The Judge was intrigued, so he asked, ‘how did you fast the whole year?’ The man answered, ‘ I fasted for the whole month of Ramadan, then kept another six fasts in the month of Shawwal, according to Prophet Muhammad (saw), keeping all of the fast of Ramadan then keeping six fasts in the month of Shawwal, is as if you have fasted for the whole year.’

The Judge remained silent, he couldn’t give a reply saying the man was wrong, so finally he asked, ‘ how did you stay awake all night and worship Allah, when your wife saw you sleeping?’ The Judge thought the man wouldn’t be able to answer this one, but the man, cool as a cucumber answered, ‘I prayed Salatul Isha with jamaat, then the next day prayed Salatul Fajr with jamaat, according to Prophet Muhammad (saw), the one who prays Salatul Isha and Salatul Fajr with jamaat, it is as if he had stayed up all night worshipping Allah.’
The Judge sat there looking at the man; the final verdict was about to be released…

He said to the man and his wife, ‘…go, just go, there is nothing wrong with this marriage’…

I am so blessed alhamdulilah because this Monday is an American holiday & I have the day off work =D

Surah Taha (20:2)

There is no proof that the sun was held back from setting until Bilaal ibn Rabaah gave the adhaan

I have heard lot of people saying especially in India that once Hazrat Bilal(May Allah be pleased with him), due to some sahabas complaining about his voice or his pronunciation in Adhan asked the permission for someone else to call the Adhan(Fajr). After he called people got worried as lot of time had passed but the sun didnt rise like normal. So they went to Prophet(Peace be upon him), told him the same & he replied that Allah has ordered the sun not to rise until Bilal gives the Call to Adhan.
Please let me know if there is any authentic Source where this incident of sun not rising because of Bilal(May Allah be pleased with him)is mentioned.

Praise be to Allaah.
There is no proof that the sun was held back for anyone except the Prophet of Allah Yoosha‘ ibn Noon (peace be upon him). In fact the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated that this did not happen to anyone other than Yoosha‘ ibn Noon. That is seen in the hadeeth of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), according to which the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “One of the Prophets went out on a campaign… and he approached a town at the time of ‘Asr prayer, or close to that time. He said to the sun: You are under the command of Allaah and I am under the command of Allaah. O Allaah, halt it for me for a while. So it was halted for him until Allaah granted him victory.”

Narrated by al-Bukhaari (3124) and Muslim (1747).

In the version narrated by Imam Ahmad in al-Musnad (14/65) it says:

“The sun was not held back for any person except Yoosha‘ on the day he was marching to Jerusalem.
Shaykh al-Albaani (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

This indicates that the sun was not held back for anyone except for Yoosha‘ (peace be upon him). This is indicative of the weakness of the reports which suggest that happened for anyone else.
It is appropriate to quote what we have come across concerning that…

Then the shaykh (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned what has been narrated about the same being held back for people other than Yoosha‘ ibn Noon (peace be upon him) and explained what is wrong with these reports. Then he said:

To sum up, there is no saheeh report about the sun being held back at all except this saheeh hadeeth. End quote.

Al-Silsilah al-Saheehah (no. 202)
To conclude, we have not come across any basis for the story about the sun being held back from rising until Bilaal gave the adhaan, in any saheeh or da‘eef report, or even in any fabricated (mawdoo‘) hadeeth that is known.

It is not permissible to speak of such things except on the basis of sound proof and evidence. Otherwise it is speculation, and speaking about Allah without knowledge.
And Allah knows best.
Islam Q&A

-‘Alee b. Husayn – Allah have mercy on him. Ibn Abi Al-Dunya, Al-Tawbah article 57

Changing one’s clothes does not break wudoo’

I did a search on this site but could not find an answer to my question. My question is regarding wudu. If I change my dress do I break my wudu? Is there any difference in this rule between a woman and a man?
Praise be to Allaah.

Changing clothes does not break one’s wudoo’, if the person is in a state of tahaarah (purity) and does not do any of the things that break wudoo’. Men and women are the same in this regard. And Allaah knows best.

The things that break wudoo’ are
1 – Any discharge from the front or back passage (urine, stools, wind, etc.), except for wind emitted from a woman’s front passage – that does not break wudoo’.

2 – Emission of urine or stools from anywhere other than the urethra or anus.

3 – Losing one’s mind, which may mean losing it altogether by losing one’s mental faculties, which is insanity, or by losing it temporarily for a certain length of time for some reason such as sleep, unconsciousness, intoxication, etc.

4 – Touching one’s penis, because of the hadeeth of Basrah bint Safwaan, who heard the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) say: “Whoever touches his penis, let him do wudoo’.” (narrated by Abu Dawood, al-Tahaarah, 154. al-Albaani said in Saheeh Sunan Abi Dawood, no. 166, it is saheeh).

5 – Eating camel meat, because of the hadeeth of Jaabir ibn Samurah, who said that a man asked the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), “Should we do wudoo’ after eating camel meat?” He said, “Yes.” (Narrated by Muslim, al-Hayd, 539).

It should be noted that touching a woman’s body does not break one’s wudoo’, whether that is done with feelings of desire or otherwise, unless anything is emitted as a result of that touching.

Personal 121

SubhanAllah today was by far a very crazy/interesting day..to start off I am disgusted by the youth in my area authobillah like honestly who fights at an islamic conference in front of Bilal Philips ? yeah it was THAT hectic. Something that involved knives & people holding down their reputation..all for the sake of what is my question? They ruined an amazing conference & it was just shy of it's last 2 hours. It honestly upset so many people & very disappointing to see that men think that strength is shown by how much men you've beat up..which is totally against what prophet muhammad (peace be upon him) which was “The strong man is not the one who wrestles others; rather, the strong man is the one who controls himself at times of anger.” [The Book of Al-Birr: Sahih Muslim] We lack knowledge which is very sad. Any who alhamdulilah the last performance kind of brightened up the mood of the whole thing, ma'sha'Allah! yet had to get shut down early because security and police arrived siggghh...I will never understand individuals & I feel for the brothers&sisters who worked so hard & woke up so early just to try to help their fellow muslimeen in benefiting :( Alhamdulilah alaa kulli haal regardless tho! I just hope the youth wake up & start realizing that it's our own fault that people think we are a horrible generation b/c we are acting like it :( May Allah guide our hearts to the light of Islam! Ameen<3 Ajeeb..the conference was called "Footsteps of the Forgotten" & we need to try to follow the Sahabah & learn from their stories in'sha'Allah cause that was the whole point of this event.

She replied. . .

Once the prophet (salla Allahu 'alaihi wa sallam) was sitting in a room with Aisha and fixing his shoes. It was very warm, and Aisha looked to his blessed forehead and noticed that there were beads of sweat on it. She became overwhelmed by the majesty of that sight was staring at him long enough for him to notice.

He said, "What's the matter?" She replied, "If Abu Bukair Al-Huthali, the poet, saw you, he would know that his poem was written for you."

The Prophet (sallaAllahu 'alaihi wa sallam) asked, "What did he say?" She replied, "Abu Bukair said that if you looked to the majesty of the moon, it twinkles and lights up the world for everybody to see."

So the Prophet (salla Allahu 'alaihi wa sallam) got up, walked to Aisha, kissed her between the eyes, and said, "Wallahi ya Aisha, you are like that to me and more."

[This was narrated in Dala'el Al-Nubuwa for Imam Abu Nu'aim with isnad including Imam Bukhari and Imam Ibn Khuzaina.]

so beautiful ma'sha'Allah sighh.... <3

Personal 120

Bismillah today was the first day of the Bake Sale at the JMSA conference & subhanAllah it was so hectic and if it wasn't for all the dedicated sisters who helped out it would have been even more of a struggle. We managed to raise alot of money tabarak'Allah & all proceeds go to Umar Bin Khattab masjid :) + did I mention we're doing it all over again 2morrow?..Plus for the long weekend my mornings are taken untill 2pm! :( I started driving school and I am telling you I almost fell asleep in the class lol but my teacher is funny alhamdulilah but still it was just too early & running home then the bake sale was just crazyy alhamdulilahhh. I love doing something for the sake of Allah & spending my money to help out the masjid or anyone for that fact, it just gives me a good genuine feeling inside & I really do hope that Allah is pleased with my deeds & that they are accepted in'sha'ALLAH<3 Now earlier in some posts I spoke about a cousin who was getting married around this time & sadly that day is 2morrow but I don't think I'll be going b/c I needa be at the bake sale :S & I can't cut myself in half sighh..I feel a bit upset I can't go & be there for married couple since it is a friends/family reception but at the same time this is what I promised myself I have to do just b/c when others depend on you; you can't let them down. Alot of people would have choosen the wedding over the conf/bake sale but I think for me I really can't cause the answer is clear, I rather do something for the Sake of Allah & trying to gain alot of agaar then to sit down eat & hear a small reminder (which is still great..but not on the same scale if you know what I mean? ) & then on Monday -Bilal Philips is coming to my masjid for a lecture from maghrib till isha :D That's so exciting & he'll be at the conference 2morrow aswell walhamdulilah :) So much things going on that it's alot to take in but I am having a lovely weekend accomplishing loads of things at one time! & May Allah make our intention sincere & May Allah accept our good deeds! Ameen<3

The Man With Four Wives

There was once a rich merchant who had four wives. He loved the 4th wife the most and adorned her with rich robes and treated her to delicacies. He took great care of her & gave her nothing but the best.
He also loved the 3rd wife very much. He’s very proud of her and always wanted to show her off to his friends. However, the merchant is always in great fear that she might run away with some other man.

He too, loved his 2nd wife. She is a very considerate person, always patient and in fact is the merchant’s confidante. Whenever the merchant faced some problems, he always turned to his 2nd wife and she would always help him out and tide him through difficult times.

Now, the merchant’s 1st wife is a very loyal partner and had made great contributions in maintaining his wealth and business as well as taking care of the household. However, the merchant did not love the first wife and although she loved him deeply, he hardly took notice of her.

One day, the merchant fell ill. Before long, he knew that he was going to die soon. He thought of his luxurious life and told himself, “Now I have four wives with me. But when I die, I’ll be alone. How lonely I’ll be!”

Thus, he asked the 4th wife, “I loved you most, endowed you with the finest clothing and showered great care over you. Now that I’m dying, will you follow me and keep my company?” “No way!” replied the 4th wife and she walked away without another word. The answer cut like a sharp knife right into the merchant’s heart.

The sad merchant then asked the 3rd wife, “I have loved you so much for all my life. Now that I’m dying, will you follow me and keep me company?” “No!” replied the 3rd wife. “Life is so good over here! I’m going to remarry when you die!” The merchant’s heart sank and turned cold.

He then asked the 2nd wife, “I always turned to you for help and you’ve always helped me out. Now I need your help again. When I die, will you follow me and keep me company?” “I’m sorry, I can’t help you out this time!” replied the 2nd wife. “At the very most, I can only send you to your grave.” The answer came like a bolt of thunder and the merchant was devastated.

Then a voice called out: ” I’ll leave with you. I’ll follow you no matter where you go.” The merchant looked up and there was his first wife. She was so skinny, almost like she suffered from malnutrition. Greatly grieved, the merchant said, “I should have taken much better care of you while I could have!”

Actually, we all have four wives in our lives

The 4th wife is our body. No matter how much time and effort we lavish in making it look good, it’ll leave us when we die.

Our 3rd wife is our possessions, status and wealth. When we die, they all go to others.

The 2nd wife is our family and friends. No matter how close they had been there for us when we’re alive, the furthest they can stay by us is up to the grave.

The 1st wife is in fact our soul. Often neglected in our pursuit of material wealth and sensual pleasure. It is actually the only thing that follows us wherever we go.
Perhaps it’s a good idea to cultivate and strengthen it now rather than to wait until we’re on our deathbed to lament.

“Convey from me even if it is (only) one aayah.”[Al-Bukhaari,3461]

Salafee Mashayikh and Their Books by Shaykh Ahmad an-Najmee

Salafee Mashayikh and Their Books

Reference: Al Fataawaa Al Jaliyyah ‘An Al Manaahij Ad Da’wiyyah’ by Shaykh Ahmad ibn Yahya An Najmee pg 18-19, 2nd edt, 14 21 H / 2000 CE
Category: Da'wah
O Shaykh, can you name for us some of the books that are upon the methodology of the Salaf, (‘Al Kutub As Salafiyyah’), that are necessary for the young Salafee to acquire and add to his book collection?
The necessary books that a student of knowledge should acquire are the books of hadeeth such as 'Al Ummuhaat As Sitt', (the six mother books of hadeeth):

Al Bukhaaree;
Muslim;
Abu Dawud;
At Tirmithee;
An Nasaa’ee;
Ibn Maajah;

...and the Musnad of Imaam Ahmad. Likewise, one should also obtain Saheeh Al Jaaami’ As Sagheer and it's additions, and Al Ahaadeeth As Saheehah, both by Shaykh Al Albaanee, and likewise the books of the earlier scholars of hadeeth.

(The student of knowledge should also acquire) the books of Muhammad ibn 'Abdul Wahaab, the books of his grandchildren, those scholars of his time and those who came after him.

Likewise the books of the salafees that are present (in this time) right now such as (the books of) Shaykh Abdul Aziz ibn Abdullah ibn Baz, and Shaykh Abdul Aziz ibn Abdullah Aal As Shaykh, Shaykh Abdullah ibn Abdur Rahman Al Ghudayaan, Shaykh Saalih ibn Fowzaan Al Fowzaan, Shaykh Saalih Al Haaydaan, and the scholars of Al Madeenah such as Shaykh Rabee’ ibn Haadee Al Madhkhalee, Shaykh Saalih ibn Sa’d As Suhaymee, Shaykh Alee ibn Naasir Al Faqeehee, Shaykh Muhammad ibn Haadee Al Madhkhalee, Shaykh Abdul Muhsin Al Abbaad and his son Abdur Razzaaq, Shaykh Muhammad ibn Rabee Al Madhkhalee and other than them from the salafee scholars, and the books of Shaykh Zaid ibn Muhammad Al Madhkhalee and whatsoever is similar to this. All of these are from the good and beneficial books. The books of the salafees in every time and place are good and beneficial and all praise is due to Allaah. However that which is feared for the student of knowledge are the books of the hizbees.

Reciting Surah Al-Baqarah

Translated by our brother
Mustafa George from www.sahab.net

Question:

There is a hadith wherin it is mentioned that if a person recites Surah Al Baqarah in the home, the shaytan will not be able to enter the home. Does this ruling also apply to one who listens to the Surah being recited from an audio tape?

Answer:

No, the recitation from an audio recording does not benefit (with regards to protection). This is because it can not be said that the person has (in fact) read the Quran, but rather it is said that he listened to a previous recording. Similarly, if we were to record an athan, and at the time of prayer we played the recorded athan, this would not be accepted. Likewise if we did the same with a Jum’ah (Friday) sermon, and at the time of Jum’ah prayer we played the sermon through the microphones, and (person on) the tape said: Asalam u alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakaatuhu, and then the caller of the athan calls to prayer, and the Imam gives the sermon (all on tape). Would any of this be correct and accepted? No it would not! Why? Because this is all considered a previous recording and it is similar to someone writing on a piece of paper or placing a Quran in his home. This does not take the place of reciting the Surah (for protection).

Allah the Most Generous has established, through His generosity, that whoever lives upon something will die upon it, and whoever dies upon something will be resurrected upon it. — Ibn Kathir

"The zina of the eyes is the gaze (at that which is unlawful, eg. Nudity); the zina of the ears is to listen (to talks of nudity which excites the carnal desire); the zina of the tongue is to speak (what is evil); the zina of the hand is to touch (the female which is unlawful to you); the zina of the feet is to walk (towards immorality); the zina of the heart is to desire (what is unlawful), and it is the private parts which either commits or shuns the actual act of fornication."

AL-HAMDU LILLAHI RABBIL ‘ALAMIN
This is a verse from the Qur’an that Muslims recite and say many times per day. Other than being recited daily during prayers, a Muslim reads this expression in every activity of his daily life. The meaning of it is: “Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds.”
A Muslim invokes the praises of Allah before he does his daily work; and when he finishes, he thanks Allah for His favors. A Muslim is grateful to Allah for all His blessings. It is a statement of thanks, appreciation, and gratitude from the creature to his Creator.

ALLAHU AKBAR
This statement is said by Muslims numerous times. During the call for prayer, during prayer, when they are happy, and wish to express their approval of what they hear, when they slaughter an animal, and when they want to praise a speaker, Muslims do say this expression of Allahu Akbar. Actually it is most said expression in the world. It’s meaning: “Allah is the Greatest.” Muslims praise Allah in every aspect of life; and as such they say Allahu Akbar.

ASSALAMU ALAIKUM
This is an expression Muslims say whenever they meet one another. It is a statement of greeting with peace. The meaning of it is: “Peace be upon you.”
Muslims try to establish peace on earth even through the friendly relation of greeting and meeting one another.
The other forms are: “Assalamu ‘Alalikum Wa Rahmatullah,” which means:”May the peace and the Mercy of Allah be upon you,” and “Assalamu Alalikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,” which means:”May the peace, the mercy, and the blessings of Allah be upon you.”

ASTAGHFIRULLAH
This is an expression used by a Muslim when he wants to ask Allah forgiveness. The meaning of it is: “I ask Allah forgiveness.” A Muslim says this phrase many times, even when he is talking to another person. After every Salah (payer), a Muslim says this statement three times.

A’UDHU BILLAHI MINASHAYTAN IRAJEEM
This is an expression and a statement that Muslims have to recite before reading to Qur’an, before speaking, before doing any work, before making a supplication, before taking ablution, before entering the wash room, and before doing many other daily activities. The meaning of this phrase is: “I seek refuge from Allah from the outcast Satan.” Allah is the Arabic name of God.
Satan is the source of evil and he always tries to misguide and mislead people. The Qur’an states that Satan is not an angel but a member of the Jinn, which are spiritual beings created by Allah. So the belief that Satan is a fallen angel is rejected in Islam.

They leave the results in the hands of Allah.

INNA LILLAHI WA INNA ILAHI RAJI’UN

It has become a tradition that whenever a person constructs a building, a house, or an office, he puts a plaque on the wall or the entrance with this statement. It is a sign of thanks and appreciation from the person to Almighty Allah for whatever he was blessed with.

Therefore it is recommended that people do not use (p.b.u.h.) after the name of prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.); they should use “Salla Allahu ‘Alaihi Wa Sallam” instead, or they may use the abbreviated form of (s.a.w) in writing.

Muslims are advised to use this phrase when such names are mentioned or written.

S

This is a statement of truth that a Muslim says after reading any amount of verses from the Qur’an. The meaning of it is: “Allah says the truth.”

SALLALLAHU ‘ALAIHI WA SALLAM
When the name of Prophet Muhammad (saw) is mentioned or written, a Muslim is to respect him and invoke this statement of peace upon him. The meaning of it is: “May the blessings and the peace of Allah be upon him (Muhammad).
Another expression that is alternatively used is: “Alaihissalatu Wassalam.” This expression means: “On Him (Muhammad) are the blessings and the peace of Allah.”
Allah has ordered Muslims, in the Qur’an, to say such an expression. Muslims are informed that if they proclaim such a statement once, Allah will reward them ten times.
